Hi,

I get rashes after eating most fruits and veggies (and also from sun). There's also joint aches and GI issues that go along with this.  I was fine (could eat anything) prior to anaphylaxis in 02.  After this, I began to get rashes with foods.    Have Neg. RAST, ANA, and Celiac. Any ideas why this is occuring, who to see for it and what testing to request?  It's depressing and overwhelming as the allergists just keep giving me the "blow off" of antihistamines, which haven't done much to help me.  Any input is appreciated.

 If it helps:

**Have seen allergists, GI, and rheum. Rheum. found CH50 to be off, sjourens/sicca, and high RBC.

** Holitistic doc, said "Leaky Gut", but I'm not sure as to the validity of this

** Personal history includes PCOS, IC, hypoglycemia, heart murmur (2/6)

**Family history of diabetes, thyroid, pancreatic cysts, cancer

Hi, welcome to Healingwell. Are you on any medications that can increase your sensitivity to these things? Were you on meds when you had your first episode?

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome! I'm currently on no medications. At the time that this began, I was just coming off of an anaphylatic reaction to Mobic (an NSAID). They had given me Epi and Benadryl for the initial reaction and Prendisone, Zyrtec, Pepcid, and Accolate (sp?) for a few months following it.

Throughout the years, it seems that more and more frutis and veggies have become problematic (to the point that I can only tolerate a few), yet the RAST test has not showed anything. Prior to the reaction, I could eat anything without problems and the sun (outside of the occasional burn) didn't cause any rashes/inflammation. Any ideas?

I wished I did have some ideas for you. But hopefully someone will come along soon and help you. The allergy testing are not 100% fail proof. You can get many negative negative and negative positive reactions. I went in for the RAST and was tested for numerous things including hazelnuts. Everything came out negative but yet I rash out with hazelnuts. I tried asking both my primary and my GI doc about this but they seemed stumped. I sometimes get rashes too when I'm in the sun but I am on a medication that makes my skin sensitive to it but before I was placed on this med, I would rash out too but to a lesser degree. I have been tested numerous times for Lupus and luckily it's always came out negative. Have you ever been tested for Lupus?

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that you get these with some foods and the sun as well! I've been checked for Lupus, celiac and allergies. The allergists have been quick to dismiss with an antihistamine script and a promise of "go ahead eat anything" (as though it were a dare). Never seems to help though and my diet is starting to get highly limited. I'm considering seeing an endocrine doc as it's looking like one of the only venues I've yet to explore. I had a great Rheum., that I think was starting to get to make some progress, but he recently moved (sigh).
