So, I've been generally as healthy as anyone my weight can be. I do have gout, high blood pressure and the like, but I'm controlling them with medication, and have done so for years. This thing is new, and I haven't a clue where to start trying to figure it out. My health care provider is either incapabable, or uninterested in finding out what is going on.
My New Year's resolution was to start taking care of myself better: quit smoking, get in shape, lose weight, blah, blah, blah. I must admit I've done quite well. I'm in my fifth month tobacco free, I joined a health club, and have lost 20 lbs. Then this thing happened.
I joined the health club on Jan. 21, after being my sister's guest to Aqua Aerobics for several visits. The classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, and I love them! During the first week in March I received new swimwear that I bought online. On Monday, March 9, I wore one of them to class. On Wednesday, March 11, I wore a different suit. On Thursday March 12, I woke up not feeling well, and by Friday, I was desperately ill. I went home, collapsed into bed with what felt like the flu...sort of. At first I was cold. Then I couldn't get warm. Then I was shaking uncontrollably. No matter how I tried, I couldn't get warm. But I was burning up. By Saturday morning, although weak, I felt fine. Then my belly from the belly button down turned bright red, and was burning hot to the touch. By the end of the weekend, I was well enough to go to work, though my belly was still pretty red. I thought I was allergic to my new two-piece swimsuits, since only my abdomen from navel to groin was affected. I kept attending Aqua Aerobics, but it didn't happen again, In a couple of days even the redness was gone. I went to see my health care provider, but she was either ignorant or indifferent about it.
FAST FORWARD 4 weeks - Wednesday, April 8. I went to class as usual. Thursday, I wasn't feeling too well. By Friday, I was pretty sick, and by Friday night I'm in bed, shaking and shivering, and unable to get warm. By Saturday, I was better, my belly was bright red, and blazing hot. By Monday, I was back at work. Blah, Blah, and so on. I went back to my health care provider, who gave me some salve for a case of jock itch that I had developed in the creases under my belly and in my panty line areas. She also discovered that I had a bacterial lung infection, and treated me for that. I called my club to see if they were adding one of their chemicals close to the date of my swim class. Got no real information there, either. I decided that, if it's an allergy to chlorine, maybe I should stay away from the pool for a month and see if it goes away.
FAST FORWARD 4 more weeks - Monday, May 4. I was a little grouchy at work, but I made it through the day. I went home, tried to eat some dinner, but I was very cold, I went to the bedroom, covered up with a blanket, and another, and my snuggie, and a sweatshirt. I just couldn't get warm. By 10:00pm, I was in the full throes of the thing. This time I had the presence of mind to ask mom for a thermometer. 101.6! To most people that's a fever. My normal body temperature ranges between 96.8 and 97.4, and always has. So, for my temperature to reach 101.6, is a very high temperature, indeed. Mom thinks that I may be dealing with a chlorine allergy, but with all the research I did online, I can't find symptoms. I haven't been in a swimming pool, nor even to the club since April 8.
I would sure appreciate some feedback from anyone who knows these symptoms. I'm really frustrated. Although my fever this last time, burned 8 pounds off me in one day! Not the kind of diet I had in mind.

Have you been tested for Lyme disease? Symptoms can include those you describe (as well as others) and may follow a pattern of flaring up every 3-5 weeks. It might behoove you to post your question on the Lyme forum here at HealingWell:

Also, yes, this could be a chlorine allergy, but since it happened even when you didn't go to the pool, I'd be surprised if that was the real cause of your symptoms.

Take care,

I'd say auto immune disease. Take photos of it when it happens again and do proof with the doctor. If she still gives you a run around ask for a second opinion. You always have the right to ask for a second opinion.
