I think I can pinpoint what happened to trigger my bad asthma attack last week. I had taken my dog to the groomer.  He wasn't quite ready so I sat down in the office which faces directly into the grooming quarters.  They had at least twelve dogs back there and the fur and dander were flying all over.  I probably sat there about 15 minutes before my dog was ready.  Not all the dogs they were grooming were non shed like my poodle. I have had my dog for 14 yrs. and never had a problem with him so I think it was being around all that fur and dander in the air that must have set me off.  Anyone think that this could be the reason?  I have had a very long spell without a bad attack and this seems to be the most reasonable answer I can think of.

Sound reasonable to me. All that dander flying around. I'm allergic to dogs and cats. I've owned a poodle before and never had any allergy problems, too. I have three cats right now, they are brushed and washed regular to keep the dander down and have limited places to lay. Plus I have hep- filter going all the time. I put down flannel blankets for them to catch the dander and hairs.

Thanks for your reply, Joy.  I had cats when I was little but they were never in my bedroom.  My asthma delveloped badly in my 20s when I got 2 Siamese cats.  We had to give them up and that broke my heart but I knew that I could have dogs that didn't shed so I have had poodles all my adult life.  Ramone is my 4th one.  I really think the dander was the cause of my attack as I got sick so soon after.

Yep sounds very reasonable to me too...as I'm highly allergic to dogs, your poodle is the best dog for someone with allergies to dogs
as poodles have hair and not fur, there are a few other breed dogs like poodles but not many....
Hope the steroids helped and that your feeling better..
try tea or melatonin for sleep!

Thanks, Chartreux, I am doing much better today.  Had a good day yesterday too.  Today is the first day not taking the prednisone and boy do I feel much calmer and able to relax.  I am still using my inhalers but don't need albuterol as much which is great and I am able to breathe pretty well.  Hope it keeps up.  I just can't spend much time outside because of the high mold.  I got out yesterday to do some things I enjoy, like bookstore and a specialty gourmet shop.  I felt like a part of the world again and the living. I hope this control will last. I got my air purifier going again in my bedroom and I think that is helping a lot. Thanks for asking about me.

Hugs,

Aurora
