Does your friend have GERD? It could be causing it.
Also my brother sneezes every morning when he looks at the morning sun. We say he's allergic to sunshine. ;D

I've also went through this for years and just chalked it up to allergies, but mine does not hit me after waking. . . Just kind of occurs out of nowhere :)

Your friend should find what is causing this allergic reaction. I too wake up on occasion from sneezing. So I guess I sneeze in my sleep! When that happens it doesn't usually stop until around 10am or so and by that time I must sneeze about 50 times. But if your friend can find what is causing the allergic reaction and eliminate it, that might help.

There is a documented condition in which someone sneezes when stimulated by light. So, strange as it sounds, it can happen!

Very true Judy. Whenever I have a sneeze that won't come out, I stick my nose up to the sun or any artificial light and the sneeze comes out.
