Fall is my roughest time of the year with all my allergies. To make matters worse my acid reflux keeps my lungs irritated with a chronic cough. Throw in an early morning leaf burner and bam! You've got a $40 doctor visit to get a breathing treatment and predinsone. smhair skull

I'm just going to go live in a plastic bubble until winter. mad
Or look like a weirdo walking around wearing a filter mask. eyes
I would probably get arrested if I go in stores or banks. tongue
Any suggestions?

Awe Joy, the fall is harder on me too, doc said a humidifer would help with the cough but it
would in turn kick up more dust to aggraviate my dust allergy, so can't win for losing on that...
and he changed my medicine from Clairnex to Allegra and the allegra is making me nauseated...
So good luck on the breathing treatments and I sure hope the prednisone helps, keep us posted
and lots of soft hugs and prayers...

They have some nice looking scarfs that hold a mask filter, but I can't remember what allergy site they were on, sorry...

You are not alone that is for sure. I absolutely hate fall as well. Ugh! My allergies are in overdrive and my allergy meds are barely even making a dent.

Amen, Red!
I have year round allergies, but the fall is the worse!
I had to sleep in my lazyboy last night because of the constant wheezing and coughing kept annoying me.
Ever tried to sleep with asthma and a CPAP machine? Not fun!
I'm on nebulizer every four hours, inbetween I take my pro-Air, predisone dose pack, and 250/50 Advir.
Ill do a search of the masks in scarfs, however I live down south and the temp hadn't dropped below 52 yet.

Thank you.

I couldn't even imagine having severe allergies and asthma. It's got to be just horrible! I really feel for anyone that has to endure both. Allergies alone is enough to drop you down a notch or two. Hang in there and I hope you find some relief soon!

I went to work today wearing a filter mask. I looked like a surgeon. The kids thought I looked funny. The staff looked odd at me. I had to explain to several people why I had it on.
One child came up to me and asked me if I was contangious.
But I tell you one thing, I could go for hours without medication.

Joy I agree with you this is one of the worse falls ever. It doesn't help that you have the allergies, asthma and GERD. I know how much the allergies and GERD can affect your asthma and it is not fun. Have you tried singulair yet? I am finally off my treatments after having been in the hospital and I think the singulair was a huge help in that. Last week I forgot to take it 2 nights in a row and I started having more allergy problems big time. I really feel for you as I know what it's like to try to sleep sitting up and it is not easy. Take care and I hope your feeling better soon. Barb

Hi Joy, hope you haven't had to go to the hospital. When I tried singulair in 2006 when my stomach caused my asthma episode it didn't help but this last time it was my allergies and I was willing to try any thing and I didn't think it was helping until I missed taking it a few nights so maybe it would be worth giving it a second try. I don't know it's just a thought. Take care and I hope your back on your feet soon. Barb

Well, I've found a new drug allergy!
I'm allergic to the levaquin the doctor put me on for the pnuemonia!
Today was day six of a ten day round. I looked in the mirror and noticed the type of welts on my face I developed when I suddenly became allergic to Augmentin. They look like small pimples all along my hairline, eyebrows, and scattered across my cheeks. They itch and burn a little. I just pray I don't have edema like last time. Those IV drugs are nasty!
I decided not to take my Levaquin dose for the day and took a Vistrel I had left over from my Augmentin reaction. So far so good. If my hands start itching- I'm going to the hospital.

I'll let you know what happens.

Oh no Joy! Make sure you call the doc tomorrow to get something else to take. You want to make sure you get rid of the infection completely. I took levaquin 500 for 10 days and had no problems after I got back from my trip because I still had an infection left even after the IV drugs for 5 days. I was really worried about taking that because of my stomach and it was something new to me. Have you tried the Zpac(azithromyacin)? That works really well for me if i get the proper amount of rest any way. That's what I took before I ended up in the hospital in TN. Just wasn't enough with the lack of sleep and the allergies. I'll keep you in my prayers. Barb

Z-pak gives me stomach cramps, Barb.
Penicillin rashes and edema. Levaquin gives me rashes, so far.
Monocycline affects me by making me feel as if ants are biting me all over.
Sulfer drugs make me throw up.
There's not much left. :(
I read about Levaquin on the internet. the usual dose for severe bronchitis to pnuemonia is 5 days.
Maybe it's enough.

Wow the Zpac was one that my stomach could actually handle and when the decided that they should try levaquin I was worried because a side effect is stomach troubles. My doc had me on it for 10 days because I was so sick. Well I have to get to be before I pass out at the computer. Take care. Barb

Wow right before Christmas. I was going to have my hand done on the 23rd but because of the doctors schedule being changed have to wait until the 28th. Not sure yet if I will have my bladder done. I think the surgery will help you out alot with the asthma. It really makes a big difference when my gerd is bad with my asthma. Hope it works out for you to still have the surgery. Barb
