I have been living with dermographia for over a year now and I have gotten used to the constant need to scratch and the hives that show up simply from changing. Im used to it. Now i am contemplating getting a tattoo on my right hip and it is something i am very passionate about. Will Dermographia cause some type of infection or consequence if i do get the tattoo? does anyone know someone who has both? I am also going to talk to my doctor, but i would really like to know others opinons. THANKS!

Good Afternoon and Welcome to HealingWell.

I would check with your dermotologist before getting a tattoo.

Tattoos breach the skin, which means that skin infections and other complications are possible.

Tattoo dyes — especially red dye — can cause allergic skin reactions, resulting in an itchy rash at the tattoo site. This may occur even years after you get the tattoo.

Sometimes bumps called granulomas form around tattoo ink — especially red ink. Tattooing can also lead to raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue (keloids).

Perhaps another member who actually has dermographic urticaria  will be along to give you information.

Good luck and stick with us.
