I posted the whole thing, the excipients, etc. on the GERD forum, so I won't post again here.  Just here to say that if they tell you there's nothing but barium sulfate and the bottle is labeled E-Z Paque, it has saccharin, sorbitol, carrageenan, strawberry flavor, other stuff, much of which contains sulfite.

I'm sitting here with migraine type headache, nausea, tinnitus, tightening of the throat, after asking about it.  Resident said nobody has ever had a reaction, but there plenty, including death, listed on websites.

I'm sorry you had a bad reaction. Dr.s and Residents sometimes don't seem to have all the answers unfortunately.

When I got to se my stomach surgeon's minion (surgeon hasn't cared to seem me since before, yes before, surgery), he told me I could have had one of the alternative contrast agents.

3 days later I still have a headache and tinnitus. Of course there is still some barium agent in my system.

For those allergic to iodine contrast, the alternative agents do have that! But some hospitals still have the old chalky barium which does not contain the excipients (additives). We allergy sufferers just have to know our allergies and call in advance of procedures, and know the meds and not believe people who are underinformed.

Thanks for sharing, Alcie. I too have had difficulties with lab technicians not knowing what's in the materials they use. What a shame that your intern wasn't more savvy to allergies and that he lacked a decent bedside manner.
