Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope the pollen in your area is treating you well!

Around the Central Tx. area where I live, everything is in bloom right now, and while mold is a year long problem, we've got the start of grasses, Ash, Oak, Elm, Pecan, Privet and Mulberry...Mt.Cedar is still with us to a certain degree in some areas as well!

Let me know what it's like in your area!

Best Wishes, Teri

Hi Teri.

It's nice to make your acquaintance. You really DO live in a troublesome area for allergies etc.
Here in the mid-west, we are by the river and surrounded by nature. There are any number of prompters
to really trouble the lungs.

Our most volatile time is when crops have been up awhile & the humidity rises. I can't even go out when the
air is that thick. I wish you all the best there.

And happy to have someone to "lead" us here. It's not an easy task sometimes. :)
Have a great week ahead!

sincerely,
linc

linc,

Thank you~I'm glad to hear from you as well!

I take a great interest in this subject as not only do I suffer from allergies and asthma, I also have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).
So this is an important topic for me.

Please expand a bit on your troubles.  Do you also have asthma?  May I ask if you are from the Illinois/Wisconsin area?

I must add a note to your signature tongue  something that I have taped on my refrigerator and look at daily.

Hi Teri.

I'm from Iowa. :) Not too far away, eh?
I love Corrie Ten Boom. Such wonderful wisdom, at such great a cost.
Thanx for the addition.

Well... let's see... I do have Cough Variant Asthma. very difficult to dx. It was an adult onset (after 40 - type of thing). My only real symptoms are SOB and terrible coughing fits.
I have a deep (almost like a whooping cough type) of cough that never goes completely away. It's better controlled some now, by Singulair. And I use Albuterol Inhalers if nec. (won't leave home
w/out one!! :lol )
A year ago last July, I had a choking incident that threw me into an all-out Asthma attack!! I didn't think I would live through it, it was the scariest thing I'd ever been through & I hope I never go through
it again!!!

I also have had CFIDS & FMS for 27 years.
In the last couple of years I found that I also have CMPD (myofascial pain disorder). I have Arthritis and herniated discs as well. So... that's quite enough, I refuse to carry one more "label" illness from this point on!! Ha! (not that I can have anything to do with it... but I can try). I do suffer allergies as well.

So sorry about your COPD... it, in and of itself, is just an awful thing to deal with, let alone with the allergy/asthma threat. I wish you the best.
Always,
lin

Good Morning All!!

lyn thanks for your response.  I heard midwest and immediately thought of the north country as that is where my family is from.  As you can see, I didn't care for shoveling much and my husband being in the military (now retired), we chose
Texas! yeah

Perhaps to make it simpler for me tongue and others you could tell us what those abbreviations stand for.  Chronic Fatigue?  The other I'm not familiar with as yet.

The Singulair is being used more and more, I tried it many years ago when it first came out, but antiinflammatories don't always work with my digestion. Though it is a wonderful aid with asthma in my opinion.  Have they ever considered Advair with your particular problem?  I'm not sure with it containing a steroid and you having other problems if that works, or not, but just a thought...

sure Teri.

C-hronic F-atigue I-mmune D-ysfunction S-yndrome
FMS - Fibromyalgia Syndrome
C-hronic M-yofascial P-ain D-isorder
C-cough V-ariant A-sthma

I've never taken Advair & probably won't as long I'm getting by with the Singulair & Albuterol.
Steroids are scary beyond belief to me, although I know quite necessary sometimes.

Actually, I'm pill-aphobic somewhat. With some other health conditions that I don't care to go
into, I have to be so careful with everything I put in my mouth!! tongue
I react adversely to so many things it's just incredible.

For years I was unable to even take an antibiotic until just this last year. It seems that many CFS people, especially
those of the viral-subset of patients, develope terrible allergic reactions to all manner of things... pharmaceutics, other meds,
foods, etc...
I happen to be one of them.
Plus, if the side-effects cause a problem (which they so often do...) I have to shift gears.

I have had so many Drs. through the years want me to take this or that, and or my dear hubby trying to get me to take
various herbs/etc **...through the years,
but have had to do so with a certain amount of fear & trepidation, or ... a very cautious
approach, at best.

*(My hubby has studied herbs/vits/and alternative treatments all of our married life & pretty much managed to keep us away from conventional medicine
outside of the normal & routine stuff, or some medical emergency, for the most part,)

If I find things that work and do not give me fits, I generally stay on them.

Anyway... probably far more than you wanted to know here...
:-)

Thank you!

That was very interesting and not too much as far as I was concerned.

My Uncle is like your husband and really into the vitamin, herb thing, and it seems to work for him and my aunt to a certain degree. yeah

I worked in a traditional medical role, first as a Candy Striper tongue  and then as a nurse's aide, and then a nurse.  So my views still tend to reflect those ideas and I find it has helped me.

I'm always ready to hear about different views and have gone along with some of my Uncle's ideas. tongue

Hi Teri. I'm registered and on board and will be chiming in when appropriate-after I get back from Florida.

Looks like there are a good number of health issues being discussed.

Hello & welcome, rudy!
Florida sounds good! :) Nice to meet you.

Happy Easter to all!

The weather here is stirring up some real coughing fits unfortunately! I'm trying to stay in...
but you know how it is. Haven't had to use the Albuterol much though, which is good.
My Pulmonary doc (he is a wonderful person)... seems to agree that I shouldn't use it unless it's absolutely
necessary.

I guess the stuff in the air & the thick air itself is kind of out-doing the Singulair right now, as it doesn't seem
as effective.
Oh well... I'm still breathing, but it's hard right now. The sob is really bothersome.

Take care,
linc

Good Morning and Happy Easter!

linc, I completely understand~the wind is blowing everything that's available around right now and I continue to have chest tightness with a cough, along with SOB as well.  My eyes are trying to get into the picture, too and have been really irritated the past week or two.  I'm still taking my Combivent and Advair inhalors.
I sure hope you you're feeling better soon yeah Have a wonderful day!

Hi Teri.

I haven't been online quite as much. We FINALLY received nice weather as a wonderful gift the other day, and
I'm out in it. For the most part, the health bugs have been kept at bay. W/CFIDS/FMS etc... one can receive a sort of
reprieve (or remission, if you will), and I'm experiencing one at the moment. Not that I'm painfree or w/out some
problems, but for me... it is an amazing thing to actually "feel" human enough to live out in the real world for a change!! :)

I am SO enjoying it while I can. (these things don't last unfortunately).
The sob is not so bad today & asthma is under control, so... all is right in my world, for the moment. Thanx for asking
about me dear.

Hoping that you're feeling super and enjoying some of the Spring blossoms etc. w/out too much breathing difficulty!
I don't know when I'll stop in again, but will try to make it not too long. :) Usually, I'm away cause' I'm feeling so miserable.
It's so nice to be away cause' I'm feeling so good! yeah
You have a great day!
