Hi,

I posted here a couple days ago, although my symptoms have changed so am starting a new thread.  Bit of background....I have ashtma and nasal issues.  In general though i'm fine, but they are triggered when I get a cold...constant tickly cough (asthma) and congestion doesn't go away until I take meds (different congestion than with cold).

For the past while, i've been fine in the day but wake up congested.  It cleared within a few hours and then repeat the next ngiht.  The past few days, the congestion is constant.  Sometimes when i blow it's clear, and other times (mostly after getting up in the morning or not blowing for a bit), it's thick yellow (which is the same as when my sinuses act up in general).  Sometimes there's a bt of pressure in my nasal area, but I feel fine otherwise (i.e. no fever, heachahce, etc).

I am taking nasonex for my nose (2 sprays in each nostril, 2x a day) and advair as the nasonex triggers the tickly cough.  Have also been using saline rinse.

My nose is a constant dam, filling up after I blow it.  Could this be a sinus infection and thus, should I go to the dr?  Or should I give it a few more days on nasonex.  It's a long weekend here so won't be easy to go.

(Sorry, I know this is similar to my other post, but am updating the comments and wondering what to do)

I'm sorry I can't answer your question as I have a similar problem. I don't have asthma but have the similar mucus/snot one. I also had UC and have a j-pouch. I was in j-pouch on-line support group earlier today and a guy in there is having crazy sinus problems. He and I both have been suffering with chronic cuffitis (UC). I posted back to him to find out if his symptoms are the same as mine.

At my appointment with my Internist a few weeks ago we discussed it and elected not to put me on an antibiotic as that might trigger my C-Diff infection to come back. The guy above also had C-Diff and cuffitis together like I did.

My doctor had me buy a "neti pot" that comes with little of packets of powder to mix in warm water in the niti. I go in the shower to use it. You put your head to the side and put the nozzle of the neti pot in the nostril facing up and the water goes in there and comes out the other nostril while you are breathing through your mouth. Sorry if you already know about this.

I've been using the neti for over a week and it really helps clean it out so I don't have to blow my nose as much. I'm also taking Allegra D. I have been having this problem since the beginning of April. By evenings I have a bad headache on the right side that is behind my right eye, ear, temple and the rest of front part of my head.

I am taking Norco for abdominal pain and it contains Tylenol and Hydrocodone. It helps my abdominal pain but not my head pain. I broke down and took ibuprofen the last 2 nights for the pain and it works. I shouldn't be taking NSAIDs because of the IBD and everything else. Plus all of this is just treating the symptoms. I did try a nose spray but it wasn't to be used for more than 2 days.

I am wondering if this is an autoimmune problem and thus related to our IBD. If it is related or not we just need to know how to get rid of it. I might try Mucinex next bot think that is for chest congestion.

Thanks for your post.

Hi.
I'm sorry you're suffering too...and with a similar history.  I often have sinus issues, along with my past UC and sacroiliitis (arthiris of the SI joints).  I believe they're all related as they all hvae to do with inflammaion...just different parts of the body.

I ended up going to a walk in today and lol and behold, it's a sinus infection.  So am on antibiotics for 10 days.  I do take a probiotic daily so hopefully that will help the negative aspects of an antibiotic.

Hope you're doing ok.

Oh, I got a neti pot as a sample, but I"m scared to use it.  I ahve been using a standard saline spray though.

I'm glad you are getting help. You might want to double up on your probiotics to avoid C-diff. You have to take them at least 3-4 hours after/before your antibiotic - at least that is what my instructions say. I take VSL#3DS.

Saline spray is good. Since you have the antibiotic I wouldn't worry about the Neti Pot. It isn't bad, you just have to breathe through your mouth when you use it.

I'm afraid I'm going to ask for antibiotics too. It's just that my C-diff infection was hard to get rid of and it was bad news to have. I've been dealing with this for 2 months now, getting really old.

Thanks toughenough.

I take a probioitic 2x a day (PB8), although I always take the second one with dinner and since I also take the antibiotic at dinner, i've been skipping the second one.

On the good side, the antibiotic has been helping, so it was infat a sinus infection.

How are you doing?  Any better or the same?  It really sucks taht you have to pick over infection vs fear of triggering C-diff infection (btw, what is a c-diff?  is that a jpouch? ..that's what I have)
Hope you're doign ok.

Lu211,

DC-diff is the an abbreviated name for it. The following link is nice and concise:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/c-difficile/DS00736

I had it several times before the surgeries and didn't even think about getting it in my j-pouch. My GI had a stool sample he took during the flex scope alone with biopsies. I had cuffitis (UC) and C-diff at the same time. This time I had to take two courses of flagyl to get rid of it.

I'm going to call my Internist and ask for an antibiotic as these head aches are horrible.

Where do you buy PB8 and is it expensive?
