In the news tonight was talk of the high costs of the epi pens, it's getting harder and harder to get medications any more.
But a $600.00 price tag on a $2.00 medication is absolute crazy and this price gouging on meds needs to stop.
It's back to school time and kids need these epi pens, but how can parents afford them???
It needs to stop, yes they need to make some money, but how can $600.00 be justified for any medicine...
The drug maker should have to justify the price. I want to know why?
My husband is supposed to have an epi pen, but we can't afford the $600.00 for him to have it.
Even my small inhaler has gotten almost to high in cost, it's Xopenex, albuterol inhalers do not help me...
about time the Government stepped in and asked the Medication manufacturer's to justify the price, or get an audit...sorry this has me upset.

I don't buy epipens anymore. Can't afford them.

Sometimes allergists have sample epipens they can give to patients.

I can't take albuterol. It gives me a bad reaction. My allergist added Singulair pills (one every morning) which is working very well. I thought my reactions were just allergies, not asthma which my allergist always says I have, but the Singulair is working on my allergic reactions better than my shots.

Thank you Alcie, its nice that some time doctors can give out samples, but it's not often enough. I'm on a lot of medications the stomach medications are just as crazy in price.

I took Singulair for a few years and it stopped helping me, or something and I needed to come off it.

Yes, the meds can be very high. It is not fair.

I am just worn out from this heat. Where I live gets very cold but it has been hot this year both in July and August.

One day was very "balmy" and a lot of people like it. But the air was so very thick that I felt limp.

The epi pen price is nutty. If you are having problems getting a drug because of the price, you can get in touch with the manufacturer and they will send you a form. You can fill it out and the doc has to sign for it and then you mail it in. The medicine will be sent to your doc's office and you can pick it up there. This is if you are low income.

Another thing is to ask your doctor if they have any free samples.

Well I hope this helps a bit.

Joan, Thank you a good solid answer.
However, the problem with that is they help low income if your at a certain income bracket it's a "no" for any help.
I tried. That is also a down side. If your middle class and just getting by in life, you get stuck with the price tag. Those programs are for low income usually 24,000 and under...We had 1 free sample from our doctor a few years ago, but when so many people are in need I'm hesitate to ask, because there is always someone in more need.
So again it comes down to, that the rich will survive, the poor maybe because of assistance, the middle class just can't afford to...

I just read an article on GoodRx.com that there is an alternative to the epie pen, its called Adrenaclick & is lower in price. Since the price of the epie pen went up 400% thanks to the company's fairly new CEO that has their stock prices soaring these days. Hopefully this Adrenaclick will be an alternative for some people.

Have you thought about going through Canada. It is NOT ILLEGAL to get personal prescriptions from a foreign country. You could go on line and check that out.

I used to do that and also contacted a group who were located in Oregon. I sent them the money order and they got medicine from Mexico. This is the exact same medicine that you get here.

I belong to a different plan now and no longer use this type of thing.

It is criminal that our government allows the drug companies to get whatever price they want for a life saving drug. Here is an article which explains what you can do.
