I am a chronic Asthmatic on Bricanyl and Seretide with Prednisone use and Ventolin/Atrovent nebuliser when I get real bad.

about a month back I had some sushi and my tongue felt real big and throat went red(Dr said it looked scratched) and I felt very weak.

I went to hospital overnight. I did not need oxygen or anything like that, but it was very scary as with the Asthma I thought I might go into anaphylactic shock.

I do suffer from anxiety and panic attacks aswell, which didn't really help.

Anyway, I can't get in to an allergy specialist until April. I knew I might be allergic to prawns but thought other sushi was ok for me-maybe it's not.

The thing is, ever since this reaction I have felt lousy. Tongue/throat itchy and burny at times. I feel weird after patting the dogs and I am not allergic to dogs ever as far as I know and also, I feel odd after eating foods I have never had a problem with before.

I have always suspected I have food intolerance in regards to wheat and gluten and eggs and chicken and stuff, but now I feel like even after some "normal" foods like poached eggs on toast or tinned spaghetti-I feel weird. One time it got so bad I went to the Dr only to be told-slight fever but no drop in blood pressure. To them my tongue and throat didn't look  too bad.

I am not making this up-but could my anxiety be making me FEEL like I am having another allergy attack? I don't want to eat anything and feel like now I can't eat until April. I know it sounds silly but I just don't know what to do.

I am worried now that coffee also is making me feel funny. Like in the throat. Could it be anything else? Could it be my Seretide or something like a post-nasal drip? Or could it be anxiety? I get so worried I don't know if I will eat something and go into anaphylactic shock.

I am trying to be brave but...I don't wanna die!!! Please help what should I do? I am really worried here.

I also ate a Red Rooster chicken roll and a few chips the other day and didn't seem to have a reaction to it, so not sure if maybe I should force myself to eat or not. I mean, is it better to eat and have mild throat irritation until April than to not eat at all?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thankyou and God Bless you all I Pray you are all healed aswell very soon!

Hi there and welcome to Healingwell :) I am so sorry that you are feeling poorly and are so scared. You can't just not eat, your body relies on food for energy and it seems as if your diet is already limited. If chicken doesn't bother you then maybe you can try chicken in different variations until April? Have you tried over the counter allergy meds to see if they will help you? Of course you have to check with the pharmacist to see if it can be comibined with your asthma medications. Sometimes too if you have a severe allergy attack your immune system gets sensitive for a while and anything can bother it that it didn't bother it before. I'm sorry I don't have much information for you. I hope your appointment in April will help alleviate any of your fears and definately get check for gluten intolerance while you are there. In the meantime, keep an eye on your symptoms and if you notice anything out of the ordinary definately go to docs/emergency.

Take care

Thanks. Yes I heard your system can become really sensitive after an attack. I am just not sure if I can eat chicken only lol

The thing is though, chicken and eggs upset my stomach a little so I would assume maybe a little food allergy there yet I was pretty much ok after eating the chicken roll the other day. I even had a few chips that may have had a little MSG in them which I usually avoid and I didn't have a bad reaction.

Yet a lot of the time just normal food type stuff I feel funny after. I don't know if it is the anxiety or a true reaction. I keep checking myself for welts or hives and apart from some redness on occasion I get no massive weals or anything. Be very interesting come April.

Until then I am being really careful with my food. I heard that anaphylaxis generally occurs within the first 30 seconds -30 minutes of eating a food anyway so I try and eat things and see how I am feeling but maybe I am thinking too much about it? Hmnn

If you want to try a gluten free diet to see how you feel here are a few websites that may come in handy:

http://www.csaceliacs.org/recipes.php

http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs06.htm

http://www.truestarhealth.com/Notes/1290001.html

If after a while on this diet and you notice that your symptoms are improving it may be in fact that you are gluten intolerant and you can mention this to your Allergist.  Also too, since you are sensitive to foods right now, try to avoid pork products since this is a known irritant.

Darn no bacon then. I have had bacon since the attack and didn't notice any major allergic reaction but then who knows? Very perplexing.

It's breakfast time here in Australia. I want pancakes with maple syrup. I hope I am ok with it.

I hope the pancakes and syrup went over well :) Enjoy your day and don't worry.......I'm sure things aren't as bad as you think they might be. You know your body better then anyone and if you feel something just isn't right then by all means get checked out. Have a great day.....................but it's bedtime here in the states so off I go!

Hi. Well I had an apple the other day and got a bit of a rash on my wrist/hand after about an hour and a half so...not sure what to think about that one. It's so strange, even things like Macadamia nuts now make me funny/itchy.

I feel a bit funny after eating ANYTHING but I know that I don't actually react badly to bread even though I think I might be a little intolerant of it.

Had some pumpkin last night and some spinach, beans and peas and a steak. Didn't notice a big reaction but throat and tongue feel funny anyway after eating anything.
