hello,
i have asthma and it is very severe.  I am constantly coughing, weezing, and taking my inhaler.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my asthma under control.

Hi there and welcome to Healingwell :) Do you take any daily meds in addition to your inhaler? Have you tried any of the maintanence asthma meds such as Singulair or Advair?

Have you consulted with your doctors about this? If so, what did they tell you?

have you been allergy tested? is it possible your house may have mold? do you have animals? what about dust? do you do the yardwork or filter your house air ducts? do you live in a high-pollen area?

you also may want to watch what you've been eating. if you get heartburn, reflux can cause asthma-like symptoms. if you have been eating foods that you could be allergic to, this can cause asthma too. and you can be sensitive to cleaning products/chemicals in the house or vacuum, down pillows and comforters, etc.

i get asthma-like symptoms all the time. i also have horrible allergies to everything and reflux to the combination makes me very short of breath. my mom's asthma, which is severe, got worse when she ate walnuts and peanuts. she was tested and found she was allergic to them and other vegetables. if you have asthma, you likely have allergies, and if you can have allergies to pollens you can have them to foods and other things. you can also develop new allergies.

oh, and be sure to stay away from cigarette smoke!

hi

have they done the breathing test on you,the one where they pinch your nose closed and your breath real hard..it measures your breathing. anyhow, they need to do that, and chest xrays

the reason i ask,is that i have asthma, and it was uncontrollable. i would cough and do that for about 5 minutes.

 do you cough up anything?

i take advair and spiriva, and it works good,as long as i do not get around things that aggravate me,as strong smells, extreme cold and hot.

So, How are you doing on the new meds???...
I take Singulair, Asmenex, Xopenex as needed and Astelin and Clarinex for the allergies. I also use a salt spray for the nose once a day....
If your not getting any relief soon from your new meds you should go back to the doctor .
Good luck and keep us updated..
Hope your doing and felling a lot better yeah
