As a new member to this site I would like to pick the brains of your members.
For a number of years I have had a problem with my ears which manifests itself in a chronic blocked head and sometimes problems when flying with pain on descent.
I find myself continually trying to clear my ears by 'yawning' and I don't mean just when I am flying.
I have consulted a wide range of ENT specialists who have diagnosed a dust mite allergy in one instance and a skin reaction in my ear canal which causes external blockage/itching. I have narrow ear canals which one specialist suggest I should have surgicall widened - as this 'may' help?
I do feel more  blocked in the morning and have taken some anti dust mite measures eg bedding etc. This doesn't seem to help a great deal. Certainly if I do not open bedroom windows (year round) I am more blocked up! There is never any heating in the bedroom.
I wonder if an air filter might help (suggestions/type/brand?)
Has anyone successfully used any alternative therapy for such symptoms?

Hi Jock, welcome to Healingwell :) I get the blocked ears too especially when my allergies are at their worse. And if I take an allergy pill such as Allegra it seems to block it in even further. It drives me crazy because to me it sounds as if everyone or noise is under water. It has been even more pronounced for me this year then any other year for some reason. I've heard good and bad stories about air purifiers. Some say they work and others say it's a waste of money. I haven't tried any yet but I've been looking into the Sonic Air Ionizer. Also too, I wonder if maybe a humidifier would work in the bedroom while you're sleeping. Or a dehumidifier depending on the moisture content in your room or house. You can check the moisture in your room by a handy little gage found at most household stores. Oh and if you can, try putting cheesecloth over any heating/cooling vents in the house and change the filter on your furnace regularly. I use an hypoallergenic filter that is supposed to catch airborn allergens. It also cuts down on the dust in the house.

I've never heard of the surgery to widen an ear canal but who knows.......maybe this could work?

I forgot to add, do you have carpet in your bedroom? If so, you should either replace it if it's old or rip it out. Carpet is notorious for gathering dust and mites.

Thanks Sherry
No carpets , only rugs in room and as I said no heating.
Will consider your other advice. Would definitely like to hear if someone has found an air purifier or similar which works!

I have no idea ttwarrior. It just started doing it this year and all I know is that it bothers me more when I take the Allegra.
