My 17 month old had a bad sinus infection last spring and had a lot of wheezing. When they got it cleared up her breathing improved. The asthma Dr explained to me that if you are prone to wheezing and any part of your breathing system, including sinuses, is compromised then your lungs react by tightening up. So yes, my understanding is that sinus congestion can bring on asthma symptoms.

:-) Purple16, I have chronic sinus problems, and Asthma. Yes, when my sinuses are acting up so does my Asthma.

I have had sinus problems and ear trouble since teenage years. Sudafed works well for sinus pressure and congestion. I use a prescription nasal spray daily to control my sinuses and nasal congestion the medication helps alot to control my congestions, and helps my sinuses also. Sinus Rinse helps too. Brandi.

Dear Purple16: If you are an asthmatic, then your airways are constantly experiencing slight inflammation (you won't notice this unless you have an exacerbation or slight flareup.) Any type of illness including colds, sinus problems, allergies, etc can increase the inflammation and inturn, cause an asthma flareup. If you are starting to feel "down in the weather", take control before the flareup by taking txs ... please contact your MD if you are not currently on an asthma management program. Also, do you use a peak flow meter? This simple device will always give you a "heads up" about any problem before the exacerbation... many times before any symptoms appear. Take care and hope you are better soon.

My sinus problems trigger my asthma attacks.
