Is this social Anxiety when ever i go to social situations such as going to get my hair cut my heart rate races and my head twitches. This is embrassing when getting my hair cut as my head keeps twitching. My body tempreature also goes up and i feel like i am not breathing. Sometimes i also feel like my brain is tingling.
This has become annoying and also happens in most social situations.

Is this social anxiety?

This also happens when ever i experience pain in my chest.

Welcome to HealingWell. You have found a site filled with caring, supportive, nonjudgmental people.  You're going to love it here! I know I have been helped by so many of the members.

In my opinion I would guess you have described genaralized anxiety versus just social anxiety.

Signs of anxiety include restlessness, a lot of worrying about things that probably will not happen, and not being able to pay attention or remain focused on a task. Sometimes the stress can get extreme and lead to panic attacks. Panic attacks are short times of intense fear and anxiety, which often include quick heartbeats, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness or stomach problems. Please talk with your doctor if you are having any of these signs.

Some things that may help lower your stress are:

• Getting enough rest (at least 8 hours a day)

• Meditation (sitting quietly with your thoughts)

• Listening to gentle music

• Reading

• Massage

• Taking a warm bath

• Going for walks

• Regular exercise that you are used to doing

I would like to suggest that you speak with your physician and consider some sort of therapy or perhaps you may benefit from medication.

Take care and keep posting.

ps2...

There is so much that goes on with a/p. Read the the messages many have posted and you will read much and learn. Have you been to the Dr yet? If not you need to make an appointment and talk things over with your Dr. Never hurts to talk and get a check up.

Let us know how you are doing.

Hay ps2 i too had bad feelings in public when my anxiety first started about 10 years ago. What you described does sound like social phobia!!! As a matter of fact i was at the hair salon as well when i had an episode and had to be transported to the ER by ambulance from the hair salon. Scared my family to death!! Now im afraid to go to the hair salon.Luckily i know how to do my own hair!!!! That was quite an embarrasing situation though!!!! I also could not eat in public resteraunts, everytime i took a bite of food i would be scared to death that i was going to choke and die!!! I used to order all my food take out as i felt more comfortable eating at home!!! Also when i would be in public places like the mall, all the people and the noise use to freak me out.For a long period of time i stopped going to any public places until i got on meds and alot of the feelings went away.Only a physc doc can tell you if in fact what you are experiencing is social phobia. So please find you one so that your symtoms wont get worst!! c-ya later PANI-KE!!! PS welcome to the sight i am sure you will learn alot!!!!

Hey there, Great advice by all and I too think you need your Physician to diagnosis you.  I hope this happens quickly for you.

Take care.
