Hello, I'm hoping some of you lovely people on this forum can help. Can anyone tell me more about Propranolol? It's a beta blocker and I've just been prescribed it today by my GP for bad panic attacks.

I did a post earlier about this but it's disappeared!

Thank you
sue

Hello,
Propranolol ( Inderal ) is a antianginal, antiarrhythmic, antihypertensive, antitimigraine drug, and beta blocker. Propranolol ( Inderal ) is not a benzodiazepines, it belongs to a group of drugs known as beta blockers. Beta blockers are not FDA approved for the treatment of anxiety or nervous tension but are generally used off label to do so.
Propranolol is usually prescribed  for social anxieties or phobias.  The medication can help to reduce the tensions associated with entering the fearful situation, to bring a racing heart and sweaty palms under control, and to reduce some shyness. I hope this helps you  and please keep posting, we are here for you.
Gentle Hugs
Kitt
