IMHO if you have a new friend that is in your life regularly you should tell her.

As for the people you work with, if it does not interfere with your work, you don't have to go around telling people.  It may make you feel uncomfortable as well as them. I would say tell anyone you feel comfortable with sharing your health issues and keep it simple.

Remember you have anxiety, it does not have you.

Hi badfish,

I think the best thing would be to tell people on a need to know basis.  If they are important to you in your life let them know, otherwise don't bother.  I think your new girl would respect you for telling her (and might be in a position to help you sometimes).  It might be better than making excuses when you feel anxious, she might thinks it's her and get upset..

Goodluck with it all, and let us know how you get along

I alone can do this, but I cannot do it alone.

I am very particular about people I tell because they label you as hysterical or whatever. My immediate fam only knows, and my meds are my biz. I share with very close friends who I trust. You can always test the waters by asking "have you ever had a panic attack?" and see the answer.

HI badfish i totally agree with kitt! From my own experience any one who is of any relevance in my life i tell them about my P/A disorder, but if it is someone i dont have to deal with on a regular basis and dont have any kind of relationship with i dont feel like it's any of their business.Like Kitt also said IF it interferes with my work i will tell my supervisor or whom ever is in charge.I usually dont tell my co-workers unless it is someone i totally feel comfortable with!! It took me a while to tell my immediate family but when they started questioning my reasoning about not comeing out of town to see them i had no other choice because i didnt want them to think it was nothing personal against them!! I use to be embarrassed to tell anyone that i had P/A but then i realized i didn't have anything to be embarrassed about!! Because i didnt choose to be this way and i know i'm not crazy like some people seem to think about people with mental ilnesses, so now i dont mind telling significant people in my life. But if you really like this girl and you care about how she percieves you then i would tell her but if you dont think ya'll are serious enough to where you would consider this to be a long term relationship then i wouldn't!
