Meet your Moderator, Kitt

Hi,

I am Kitt and I volunteered to moderate this forum as the topic is close to my heart. I am a retired RN, 26 years working in ER/ICU and then as the Nurse Manager of Emergency Services and Respiratory Care. My husband and I have 4 children, one of our boys was killed in a car crash in 1990.

I have A & P and Depression and was first dx in 1982 so I know this disorder well.

I joined HW after being with a strictly Mental Health site as a moderator for 10 months. I felt I needed to branch out and belong to a group that covered medical and mental health issues. The people here have become family to me.

I have always been a care giver but have learned to take care of me now so I have no more guilt over doing something just for me.

I believe I have a good sense of humor and I love to help others. Team work is very important to me. I am proud to be a part of this forum.

I am glad to be here. I am truly happy you have joined us.

Kitt

Hi Everyone............I am Sue and have suffered from anxiety and panic disorder since I was 13.  Am well into my fifties, and when I went thru an early menopause at age 38, my anxiety hit an all time high.  Only then did I start receiving treatment.  I was dx with Fibromyalgia 4 mos ago after 2 1/2 years of unexplained pains.

So I deal with both now and somedays are just unbearable.  But I do get thru them. :-)   I have two wonderful sons and a husband. My oldest son is an EMT/Fireman and will be graduating from nursing school this May and wants to be a trauma nurse.  He is getting married in Aug of this year.  My youngest (they are only a year apart..24 &25) is a minister and lives on his own.

Its great to meet all of you and I do find comfort in meeting people who I can share my concerns with. Have a calm peaceful day eveyone tongue tongue

Tootie,
Thank you for the introduction and I am sure you are very proud of your boys.  I am an RN and did trauama nursing for  26 years in the ER and ICU.  I managed the ER for 8 years.  Working with EMT's was a huge honor for me and the Fire Chief is a good friend of mine.

A minister too, you are so very fortunate to have both of your boys doing what they chose to do.  You and you hubby obviously raised them well.

I am sorry for the pain you go through but please do come here and post and receive the outpouriing of support from the members.
Bless you
Kitt

Hi all! Now that I feel a little better, I will tell about me. I am a newby and my name is Deb and I am from the Midwest U.S. I am almost 25 and was diagnosed with anxiety and depression about 10 years ago. I live with my mom, who is the greatest support in my life. I love her so much! I know how hard it is for her to see me in my panic states, but she is so tough and is always there for me. I just graduated 2 weeks ago as a medical laboratory technician. I have been working in a veterinary lab for 5 years as an assistant and a courier, and now I will be a lab tech at the same facility. I was to start official training last Monday but have been struggling with my A/P since, so have not been to work since. Hopefully I can get back in the next couple of days. I'm glad I had accumulated 150 hours of paid time off! I am currently taking 75mg of zoloft daily and just today began clonazepam (.25mg in morn and .5mg before bed.) I am hoping that I will soon reach that balance that we all wish to achieve. Thank you to all for such a warm welcome and I know I have posted it before, but I found a great place and hope to become part of the HW family. And also, thanks for all the advice, the ensure works great!
Much Love,
Deb :-)

Hello Deb,

Thanks for the intro. Kudos to you for completing your schooling and I think it is very common to feel anxious about your new position.  You will have new duties and responsibilities but just take it slow and remember this is new for you.  Give your self plenty of time to adjust.  You will do fine but remember to be kind to yourself.  You are a worthy person and you belong to the elite group of A & P members. There are many of us :-)

It was so heartwarming to hear you say how much you love and care for your Mother. She sounds like a wonderful woman.  Bless you both.

Hugs
Kitt

Hello all...meet another one of the A/P moderators.  My name is Wendy and after having to take a break from everything for the last couple of months, I am back.  A few months ago, I volunteered to help moderate as I really wanted to give something back to this wonderfuly supportive family.  This great family has helped me tremendously and I love it here.  There's never any judgement, just advice and support - which is exactly the way it should be.

I have been married to the love of my life for almost 11 years (been together for 13 years).  Between us we have three children - 2 boys ages 15 and 22 and 1 girl age 13 (but thinks she's 25 nono ).  I was first diagnosed with depression during my teens (in my 40's now), anxiety and panic came along in my 20's and now it's brought along agoraphobia.  I'm trying to beat the agoraphobia, but haven't had much success with that in the last few weeks, mostly due to the severe depression.  But I know that if I take things a step at a time and keep working at it, I'll beat it.  I had a nervous breakdown this past July and was admitted to the hospital.  I have been in the hospital twice since then.  I also have several medical issues going on as you can see in my signature.  My husband is very supportive and helps me however he can; I couldn't ask for a better man to be at my side.

I'm so happy to see new people here and will be taking the time to "meet" each one.  This is a great place to be and you can't ask for a more helpful, supportive and wonderful family than the HW family.

Noob!

Not new to anxiety/panic/agoraphobia, unfortunately, but new to this forum. I've been struggling with some level of agoraphobia on and off since my mid-20s, when I was homebound for several years. I'm 56 now, and going through another bout. Lost the ability to drive on the freeway about 6 months ago. Had trouble even riding the bus for a while, but now I'm good with that. Fun!

I've also recently been diagnosed with "possible" lupus. (?!) The lupus blood tests are positive one day, neg the next. The more I read about it, the more my experiences seem consistent with the description of lupus. On the other hand, lupus is one of those diseases where everything from a hangnail to a headache can be part of it -- or not. (And yes, I do visit the lupus forum here.)

To reveal all: I'm a novelist. I'm planning novel #4, which will be a suite of related stories about agoraphobics. Agoraphobic parties, agoraphobic world travelers, agoraphobic unions (banding together with other agoraphobics who can do THIS but not THAT to make tasks such as grocery shopping possible), fake agoraphobics who commit crimes "stealth," agoraphobic LDRs with partners three blocks away, agoraphobic exhibitionist extroverts...

I'm also a practicing Zen Buddhist. Half hour or more of daily practice for 5+ years now. This practice is not goal-oriented by intent, but has had the pleasant side effect of making the anxiety easier to cope with. It has also radically changed my outlook on everything from bad drivers with cellphones to the pesky young robbers who (attempt to) break into my home about every three months.

As you might have guessed, I use a combination of compassion and humor to get by.

Maenad, Welcome to HealingWell and the A & P forum. What a great introduction. I am so glad you found our group as I am sure you will find many compassionate and supportive members.

Your Buddhism appears to bring you peace and tolerance which is so helpful in the turbulent times we live in.

Whoooo Hooo for the bus.  I am sure with hard work and your believes that you will be back to driving a car and overcome some of these phobias or make them manageable.

Congratulations on you success as a writer.

Again welcome
Kitt

Hi, I am from Pennsylvania and have a diagnosis of Panic Disorder, OCD and Bipolar Disorder. I have a store on ebay which accomodates those times when I have difficulty functioning outside of the house and also a job with an independency agency which monitors/advocates consumers of Mental Health and D&A services.

I've had panic for nearly 20 years. Had a few years where I was symptom free.

Nice to meet you all and looking forward to hearing your experiences.

My name is Leah and I suffer from A & P and also agoraphobia. I was officially diagnosed around 14 (and currently 35) and at times have been housebound, and probably spend about 85 to 90 percent of my time in the home now. I work full time from home and do as much shopping and living as I can from the house. I have a WONDERFUL husband (who does so much for me and our family!) and three great kids two girls and one boy 12, 10, and 9. I have other health issues that cause me some problems and extra anxiety. Currently I take Risperdal and Xanax (as needed but only .25 and only take 1/2 pill b/c I am scared of getting addicted - another FEAR). They are not working very well, so I have made an appointment with a new doctor (will be like my 15th doctor over all the years) and will see him in a few weeks to see what else I can try. I have been on SOOO many medications, but I am so sensitive to meds and the side effects are usually worse than the problem for me.

I just try to live day by day and be the best mother and wife I can be with the ability I have. I pray that I will find a way to get better so I can do even more.

Welcome to all the new members and I feel blessed to have found this forum. I usually post on the Lyme boards.

Blessings,
Leah

Dear Leah,

I am so glad you have found us as we have a whole bunch of members that know what your going through and where you are coming from.

I do understand about the meds and the Doctors.  I told my Pdoc I was sick of coming to the clinic as my big day out,  I think she does not like my smart mouth............I was just trying to explain it is anxiety provoking to always have people poking and prodding at you.

I am sure you are a great Mom and I am very happy that you have a supportive hubby.  That means a lot.  Keep posting and know we are all here for you.

Hugs
Kitt
