Hi all - I found this site while researching my symptoms. I am 27 and have suffered from anxiety for about 5 years now. It's so horrible. I get lightheaded ALOT and find myself breathing really shallow, so that causes me to feel worse. I feel a little smothered, and my heart beats fast. I get to the point when I feel like I'm going to pass out, but never do. I constantly feel tense, and am very irritable sometimes. I worry constanly that I'm going to die or go crazy. Before I was diagnosed wth anxiety I went to the ER and doctor way too much. Had blood tests, EKGs, an echocardiogram, a MRI. Everything came back fine. Saw specialists - ENT, cardiologists (the cardio doc told me that my heart beats naturally fast, 90 bpm or so, and that could cause lightheadedness sometimes.) I even got life insurance and had to go through a very detailed health screening. I came back very healthy. So finally after that, my doc sat me down, and told me that I do not have any serious illnesses and that she believes I suffer from anxiety. She prescribed Buspar, Xanax, and Ambien. These things have been lifesavers. I will go months at a time when I feel great, and then WHAM! I get a horrible panic attack, and am obsessed that I am dying again. I will go online and research my symptoms over and over again. And logically, I know I fit the profile of GAD and panic disorder, but I still can't help but think it's something much more serious. I mean, I really do feel such horrible physical symptoms! Can panic disorder/anxiety really do that? I want to look into CBT.... Does anyone feel like me?!?!

Hi, I am so sorry about how you feel. Panic is awful

What other physical symptoms do you have?

I feel the same way you do! I haven't been suffering as long as you have (only about 1 year) but I always feel like I'm going crazy. It's funny that you write about having all these tests done because for the last few months I have been wanting all the tests done but I know it's all in my head. I have also had blood tests done and I am too very healthy. I was finally put on Zoloft and I feel much better most of the time. I still have little freak outs here and there but not nearly as bad. I feel for you, I just found this website a few days ago and it's nice to know we are not alone. I will stay on the computer for hours looking up my symptoms just convinced that there is more wrong with me. I hope it gets better for you!!

hi there peacesoul- the symptom I feel most is lightheadedness, like I am just going to pass out at any moment. I feel very tense - sometimes I feel like I am on the verge of a stroke or something. I find myself gritting my teeth, and like I can't get in enough air. Sometime i feel a tingling in my head, and I just can't concentrate very well. I get irritable too.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Healing Well family, we are very happy that you have found us and hope that you stay with us.  This is a very caring and supportive group of people where you will be able to find some guidance and hopefully some reassurance.

It sounds like you are dealing anxiety/panic, now that you have found us you won't be alone in this battle.  Many of us here, myself included, feel the same way you are feeling.  It can be scary and overwhelming at times.  There is a thread on this page on Relaxation Techniques and one on CBT Therapy - again some good information that may be of help to you.

Please make sure to check out the resources in the yellow box to the right - there is some great information there.  Also, as Lyn said, make sure to read some old posts as you will also find a ton of helpful tips and information.  Feel free to post any time to vent, ask questions, to lend your point of view, or to let us know how you are doing.

Again, welcome to Healing Well.  We look forward to getting to know you better.

Take care,
Wen

Welcome!

I'm sorry you're feeling so rough right now. I can identify with the feeling of not getting enough air. That's one of my biggest symptoms, and it always adds to the panic.

Please look around at the resources our moderators have suggested, and know that you're not alone.

Welcome to HW, I can realte to many of your symptoms and I hope that you keep posting here (we are a really nice group of supportive people)....not being able to breathe (or feeling that you can't is AWFUL).. I try and focus on breathing in to the count of five and out to the count of five..it slows down the panic and helps regulate that darn breathing!!! I welcome you again xxxx

I just began CBT last week and am so looking forward to my next session on Wed. I believe it you believe in it and give it your all and be totally honest you should get something out of it (at least I hope!!!) My A/P really gets my heart going and my stomach upset. I hope you can get into some therapy and it works for you (and me!) I found this is a great place to me, just to know you are not alone. Welcome.

thanks for all the responses so far - nice to talk to people that actually understand. Because as much as my family and friends and boyfriend try to be supportive..... they just don't understand what it's like to go thru this. I hear that anxiety/panis genetic most of the time. My mom's side doesn't suffer from it though. Don't know if my dad's side does (they split when i was a baby). I wonder myself if i have a chemical imbalance????

I would really look into this if it is a concern and you want answers
IMHO............you have to be ready and armored to fight this DD we know as a/p
Learn as much as you can about it and ways to fight it

Take care
