Hi all!
The past few days I have been waking up with really bad sore throats. Today when I woke up, not only did it hurt (and it basically hurts on the right side) but my lymph node on the right side of my neck is way swollen. It hurts to swollow. I am a smoker (want to quit, but want to get through the other issues first), so of course I am thinking is it cancer? I'm only 24. Why do we people with anxiety and panic always have to think the worst!? Thanks for listening!

Dear Deb,

It is the nature of our anxiety disorder and what we refer to as Stinkin Thinkin.  You most likely are right, you have a nasty sore throat and your lymph nodes are swollen from the infection.  Do you still have your tonsils? You might want to just make an appointment at the clinic to have your throat checked and maybe a throat cuture done.

Please try to let go of the fear of cancer as we end up on the merry-go-round of the what ifs?  Stay in the moment and get that throat looked at.

Gentle Hugs

Kitt

Yes, I still have my tonsils. I hate the stinkin thinkin! I think I make it worse too by just laying in bed and not getting up when I wake up! Just trying still to adjust to my funky schedule! This week I had to work 1st shift yesterday and late nights tonight and tomorrow. Then I'm off thurs cause I have to work 1st on friday again. Talk about stress! My body can't adjust in those conditions!
Many hugs to you kitt!

Deb,

Sorry you're going through a period of health anxiety on top of everything else. With all the physical stress your body has been under lately, it's no surprise that you've got a sore throat. Go get checked out by your doctor and try to calm yourself in the meanwhile with whatever relaxation works best for you. I go through the same kind of stinkin' thinkin' all the time.

Take care,

Deb, i've been have that same Stinkin Thinkin stuff too, and it is no fun... I find sleep to be the number one thing that throws me off. Be kind to yourself and once you adjust to your new schedule, your stress level should go down. Give it some time and give yourself some space mentally to adjust, and again be easy on yourself.

hang in there :)

Thanks guys. I have an appt. with my psych I gotta leave for in a few min. He's an MD so I'm gonna run in by him and hopefully get into my PCP today or tomorrow. Maybe I have strep throat. The weather here gets warm and then the next day its in the 30's. I always seem to get sick when the weather can't make up it's mind! Thats life in Wisconsin!

Just wanted to update everyone, my psych recommended I go to my PCP. I did that afternoon and I had a sinus infection! The reason my throat hurt so bad is because I was so congested that when I was sleeping I would breath through my mouth and the air in my room is dry. I was given a nasal spray since the other over the counter decongestants make you jittery, the last thing a panic person needs! With the spray and a humidifier in my room, I am feeling alot better! Thanks for all the caring!

Deb,

That's good news! I like it when these things turn out to be little for me, because that's one more piece of solid evidence I can use to talk myself out of the next health scare I feel.
