Alright all, you know how I suffer all the time... it's a big possibility that the Lamictal has been doing this to me so I am going to stop it in small steps weening myself off of it. I also must stop drinking, and recently I failed my campaign and binged for 3 days. Anything I should expect? I went off Risperdal very easy, every 3 days I went down 0.25mg, now I just got off THAT and now I'm on Lamictal 100mg after being on Lamictal 125mg for a little while. Thanks everyone.

I am sorry you are having problems again with the drinking.  I really would like to see you get into a program for the drinking as well as working with your PCP or Pdoc regarding weaning off the meds.

None of the members are professionals and therefore are not the ones to guide you through the weaning process.

Please seek a professional to help you.

We are here to support you and share our own experiences but remember each person is different so how we react to weaning off of a med may be completely different then your experience.
Keep posting to us and we do care.

Hi Paulos

Don't be afraid..actually you are Very brave..you have written a post and told us all of your probs and that's the first step...the next step is just as easy really - you have admitted you need help..now you have to reach out and ask for it...

How about, as Kitt suggested wisely - you contact your Pdoc or GP (whoever prescribed your meds) and make an appointment to discuss weaning off the meds...and your drinking prob too and see what they suggest :) the good thing being that you are already familiar with these health professionals and that will make it a lot easier :)

I wish you well Paulos...keep us posted..

Hi Paulos,

As you know, we are here to support you however we can.  But, as Kitt said, we are not medical professionals and cannot offer medical support to you.  With that said, I do know that you have to wean very slowly off the Lamictal - but PLEASE consult your doc about doing this as that person is the best one to tell you how to best do this.  I would also like to see you in some sort of program regarding the drinking issue.  I'm sure you know that drinking and meds just don't mix and this may be part of what's causing the problems you are having.  Please keep posting to let us know how you are doing.

Take care,

Good Morning Paulos,

I hope today is better for you.

When your fears have the best of you, it is easy to feel that things will not get any better. This is not true. There is much help available in today’s society and the best way to deal with your fears is to find effective ways to overcome them. Instead of focusing on doom, stay in the moment. Give yourself breathing space. Consider what matters to you. Establish a few manageable goals, then take small steps toward achieving them. Don’t try to solve  everything at once as you may be setting yourself up for failure.

Please know coming here is a wonderful and courageous step. You are voicing your fears so you know what they are. Now let us help you face them, one at a time. :)

Do seek out your physician to help you. We are all here supporting you and if you fall we will pick you up my friend.

Keep talking with us and know you are a great person.  Believe !
Hugs
Kitt

I'm tapering off the drug with and without my pdoc, I did with the Risperdal and I'm doing it with the Lamictal. I've tried this before and he put me way too LOW on the Lamictal... but I did want the fastest results. I don't know by saying this if I'm still welcome here, but I know I'm going to need a lot of support in the upcoming weeks.

Hi Paulos,

Of course you are still welcome here, just because we recommend a member do something and they don't follow it doesn't mean you aren't welcome here.  We just want what's best for our members and we consider this to be a family and you are part of this family.  You do what you feel is right for you.  Please keep posting any time to let us know how you are doing, ask questions, etc.  We hope you stick with us!

Hi Paulos,

Risperdol is more of an as needed drug. That is why it was easy to taper off. I don't know about the other one though, be very careful. Being that you needed risperdol, I really wish that you weren't going off of your meds. Especially without professional help. So please be careful. We are still here for you, just wish you would confide with your doctor about your issues.

hugs, Karen

Hang in there, Paulos! It can be tough to fight all the battles at once that come up with anxiety. If you slip on occasion, it doesn't mean you've lost, just that you need a chance to regroup. Good luck with the tapering off. I've never taken the meds you're on, but I have been on Paxil for many years. In that time, I've changed my dosages or tapered off several times. It doesn't always work out the same way, even with the same drug. So just be patient with yourself, my friend, and take it slow and easy.

Paulos,

I'm just checking in with you to see how you are doing today?  How is it going with tapering off the meds?  Have you contacted your doc at all about any of this?  As Percycat said, just because you slip, doesn't mean you have lost the battle.  You just get back up and try again - I know, I've been there too.  It's not easy, but if you really want to stop drinking you will.  Keep posting to let us know how you are doing, we really do care about you.

I personally dislike lamicatal, so everyone knows my feelings. The risk in stopping Lamicatal is mainly siezures. Since that is a little serious most would admit, yes? The first thing they would do is decrease their risk. I would do that by perhaps by back-dosing. Say I had been on a drug for a month 225. On lamictal if the doctor followed protocol you start at 25 taken morning or night for two weeks, then add 25 for 2 weeks taken together.) Back-dosing would be cutting back to 200 for two weeks, then 175 for two more, and so on.

Also stay hydrated, avoid alcohol (increased seizure risk when consumed in large amounms and what and what is too much changes which each change of dose.) Under a doctor's supervision, going off is easier and faster because there drugs avaiible to prevent the risk of siezure so you can take and then rapidly deecrease your dose and stop taking. Think about how this would impact you and your doctor's relationship....
