My daughter, who is 13 and in the 7th grade, has an upcoming school dance where she has been elected to be the QUEEN.   Isn't that awesome!?!!?  Yes, I'm a proud momma - LOL.  Now I have to make a dress for her that she wants, so we are going to the fabric store today right after she gets home from school.  It's a small store and shouldn't be too busy - but I'll still be taking my valium before I leave and will take it with me in case I need while there.  I have just two weeks to get this dress done for her - eek!!!!

So if I'm not here much during the day, except first thing in the morning, it's because I'm sewing away like crazy - LOL.  I just can't believe she's going to be the queen, that's so cool!!!  Just had to share this with you all.

Proud momma,

Laurel and Lyn,

Thank you both for your support.  She is very excited to say the least, especially now that we have the fabric for the dress.  She picked out a very pretty sheer black fabric that has large pink flowers on it.  Then we picked out a jersey type of fabric to go underneath it that has a light gold sparkle in it.  When it's all done I will take pics of her in it and share them with you all.  I think she will look very pretty in it.  I have just two weeks to get this done, but it shouldn't take that long (I hope - LOL).

Lyn,

Thank you for saying I'm a good role model for her, I need to hear that once in a while, because there are times that I certainly don't feel like it.  But other times I do.  I'm so glad that she got this - what a boost for her self-esteem!!

Wen,

I'm just getting to this thread, so please accept my belated congrats to you and your daughter on such an exciting occasion! (Now the fabric store post makes more sense -- ol' slowpoke me!)

The dress design sounds lovely, and I'm sure you'll feel so good about yourself both while and after you've made it. I can't wait to see how it looks on her. Does this mean you're the Queen Mother now?

Hugs,

I am new around here but wanted to tell you that is terrific news and I had read early that you stay around the house a lot (as do I)so I think that is great that you were able to go to the store to get the fabric for the dress - the small things for others are like mountains to us! I am sure your daughter will look amazing!!

Blessings,
Leah

Hi all,

I just wanted to update you all that I have her dress completed.  But never again will i work with a sheer fabric!!!  It is the hardest fabric to work with ever - it frays and it's slippery - oy vey!!  But I got it done.  It fits her ver nicely and looks great on her.  I will be taking pics on Friday night with her hair all done up and will have them posted for everyone to see.

Thanks for all your support!!

Take care,

Hi everyone,

Well, we got through the dance preparation - boy what a job that was!!  LOL.  Luckily my son's girlfriend is very good at doing hair otherwise it would have looked awful - I'm no good with it.  The Queen had a fabulous time at the dance and the first words our of her mouth when she got home was "that was the best dance ever".  I thought she looked beautiful with her hair done, some makeup on (which is a first and the last for some time to come - LOL) and the dress.  I have to brag a little and say this was the dress that I made for her.  I'm pretty proud of how it came out, although I will say that I will never again with with sheer fabric - what a HUGE pain in the tush it was!  Of course it had to be lined, but we found a pretty black fabric to go underneath that had some light gold sparkles in it - just perfect.

Any way, I bragging about my beautiful daughter and show off some pics of her all done up.  Thank you Kitt for putting the pics up for me!

Take care all,

Wen

Lyn and Kitt,

Thank you both for your kind words, I am very proud of her and sometimes I forget just how precious she is.  But I'm proud of her accomplishments and how pretty she looked last night.  Gonna have to have a shotgun to keep the boys away - LOL.

Thanks again ladies, luvs and hugs to both.

Luv,
Wen

Wen,

I was just struck by what a talent you have - one that's become so very rare in these days. You sew beautifully, and I think that's something very few people learn to do any more.

You deserve to take a great deal of pride in yourself for your skill.
