Hi, Tony!  Just checking in to see how your MRI went.

I hope there were no difficulties or discomfort, and I hope Barb's shingles weren't causing her any pain.

Love and prayers,

Tony and Barb,

I am so sorry your day did not go as you hoped yesterday but today is a new day.  No kicking yourself, Tony, for being human.  If they decide to medicate you to get the MRI.................I am sure they will just use a sedative like Versed or Valium and you are not knocked out just pleasantly calm and it allows you to tolerate the procedure.

Everyone that has any scopes, colonscopies etc is medicated this way.  You are awake and aware but in a twilight zone............it actually is pleasant as you are aware of what is going on and where you are but the anxiety is not there.

I am glad to hear Barb is doing better and I would suspect the physician is talking about the same type of medications as noted above to allow them to give her an injection.

Remember you are ok, you are normal and you can do this.  I have great faith in you.  Just keep taking babysteps and stay in the moment.  Let go of yesterday and live today.

Hugs
Kitt

Tony,

I so feel for you. about two years ago I also had to walk out of a MRI b/c I just couldn't do it. I was able to go through one later with a WONDERFUL patient tech and some xanax, but every time they mention one I just know I would probably have to be knocked out to do it again. Don't feel like a failure!! Even though is simple to others (like my husband who just gets in there and falls asleep - I have no idea how!) for some of us it is a huge mountain to climb! I try what the call the open MRI's and left that one also - so actually I left two and it wasn't until the third one that I stayed. So I walked out TWICE!!

I know I am probably not offering you any help, but I did want you to know that you are not the first person to walk out and you definitely won't be the last. Don't beat yourself up!! Your doctor will find something to get you through the procedure! I would just try to get through it frame by frame and as the tech told me each frame I got through was one more bit of information for them (that was the nice tech!). So, she would tell me ok this one will be 20 seconds or 60 seconds, etc. and that is how I got through over an hour - piece by piece. You will find what works for you.

Blessings,
Leah

Tony, you are SO NOT (yes I'm yelling - but out of respect) a coward or a loser..you have anxiety disorder, and you are doing the very best you can, now stop beating yourself up or I will get grumpy (trust me that's not so nice!!!)..

I can't even tie my shoes (thank god for velcro) when I'm that anxious let alone walk into a medical centre, let alone into an MRI. I think you are the bees knees and you should too okay? It may take some time, but you will get through this. It took me three weeks of severe concussion and pain to get my first MRI and I sooked like a baby, even tho I was full of xanax. I really did.

Now, lecture over, I hope that injection helps Barb, and know that I am thinking of both of you.

Many, many hugs for both of you (and some cheese fries to share)

Tony,

Late support and encouragement from me, but still lots of it! I know you're disappointed at how your MRI went, but I am sure you did your absolute best to try to go through with it. It just wasn't something you were able to do that day, that's all. Please don't beat yourself up; you gave it your best shot, and that's what matters. Especially in this fight against anxiety: it would be great to always beat it into submission, but what matters more is that we become stronger just from putting ourselves out there to even face it in the first place.

You did fine, my friend. Now enjoy the holiday weekend with Barb, and give yourselves a mental holiday for even an hour or two by thinking about something uplifting and positive. Tomorrow will take care of itself (or if you like King James, "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof").

Love and prayers,
percycat

Tony & Barb,

Tony, I'm going to say to you what a lot of the other members have already said to you, YOU ARE NOT A COWARD OR A LOSER.  You just have a hard time with closed in spaces and that does not make you less of a man in any way at all.  I bet you and your doc will figure something out that will work for you so that you can get this needed MRI done.

I so hope that Barb gets well soon and hope the shot has eased her pain and that she is getting better each day.  It's great to hear that she is cooking this weekend.  I too wish  you could put the yummy smells here for us.

Love to you both,
Wen
