confused   My husband has had a knot on his head since he was born.  It used to be hard and unmovable.  Now he's getting headaches from it and the knot is softer and movable.  He won't take off work to go to the doctor! Is this normal? Anyone heard of this before.  It's really freakin me out. help please

Hi thirstyforchrist.  I'll give you my two cents....which is basically telling you my own story about my husband.

In 2004 he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer).  Initially, he complained about back pain.  He wouldn't go to the doctor so I finally just made the appointment for him myself.  I had to trick him to go but I'm glad I did because that ultimately led to the cancer diagnosis.  I don't know what would have happened if we had waited any longer.

I'm not saying your husband has cancer....not saying that at all.  My point is that you may have to make an appointment for him especially if the knot changed.  My own gut feeling thinks a soft movable knot is just a cyst but if it's giving him headaches, maybe the doc can take the knot out.

Can you trick him into going to the doc?  Pretend you're going somewhere else, maybe?

Hey Harlan
Thanks for your advice. I'll keep trying to get him to go to the doctor. I checked the knot and actually I was wrong about it being movable. It's just gotten much softer and he says it hurts him. I love him so much and I hope I can get him to the doc. Thanks again!

I read your post to my husband thinking it would remind him of me making his appt for him. He said he doesn't know why men are stubborn like that. I truly hope you can get your husband in to the doctor. If it were me and the knot was the same after all these years, I probably wouldn't worry about it but when it changes and it's causing headaches, it's time to go. If he still won't go, maybe you could call the doctor and talk to him/her about the situation and seek some advice. How far away is the doctor's office from where you live or work? My husband initially only agreed to go if the doctor's office was close to our house.

Well we live less than 5 minutes away from the doctor's office and local hospital. But he thinks the MD I go to (and our insurance covers) doesn't know anything. Also he works in another city at a factory and it takes about 45 minutes to get there. So he wants to save his vacation days and stuff for something fun. My point is, what if he just takes one vacation day to go instead of waiting until something is too late to fix. Then he will be on permanent vacation if you know what I mean. He doesn't get my reasoning. I think I'll just call the MD myself. I'm going to make him an appointment and make him go. I think he loves me enough to do it. I hope.

Is your doc open on the weekends at all?  The doc my hubby went to is open 1/2 a day on Saturdays.  Maybe if you schedule the appt with his doc really early in the morning or later in the afternoon, he wouldn't have to take the full day of vacation.  Just a thought....

Well our doc is open 1/2 days on Sat but he only sees sick paitients then. So I'm gonna try and talk to him personaly and see if I can't get him to see my hubby on a Sat when he doesn't have to work. He's been working seven days a week lately so that will be a project in itself to get him to cut down on the over time. But thanks again!

HI just thought Id add my 2 cents worth. Since you said it has become soft. It sounds like a cyst to me.
Im not sure what to tell you as far as trying to him into the doc. All I can say is tell him how you feel and ask him if he wont do it for himself if he will please do it for you.
Let us know if you get him into the doc!

I agree!  Let us all know if you get him to the doc.  I also agree that it sounds like a cyst.  If he's getting headaches and it's bothering him, he needs to be seen.  Good luck with it!

What ever happened with this?  Have you talked your husband into going to the doc yet?

Sometimes we have to take charge with someone who may be afraid to find out what might be going on so good for you for enlisting his Momma's help.

Proud of you.
