I just need some advice.  I took my daughter whom is one to the doctor today.  Well they just called me to tell me that the lead in her blood was high and that next week I need to take her to have a  more thorough exam done rather than a finger prick.  I was wondering how serious is this and if I should go today.  It is making me panicky and I dont want to worry all weekend.

Anastasia,

I know how scary it can be when there is something going on with our children's health.  Take a deep breath and be proactive about this.  Does your local hospital have a nurse advice line or is there a number you can call to talk to a medical proffessional?  I would start there, explain to them what the doctor told you and ask if they feel that this is important enough to get her in for more testing today.  If nothing else, call your doctor's office back and tell them that you are really concerned about this and that you don't want to sit over a holiday weekend worrying about it.  I've found that being honest about being anxious over a health issue whether with me or my child is not unusual and most people are very understanding about it.  Try and get some more information and then give an update.

I agree with all that Junebug said. If it feels like you need to be proactive then please do so.  This is your child. Lower your anxiety by making the calls.

Anastasia,

Kitt and Junebug are right on with this one. I know that we have 24 hour lines we can call to get advice from RN's and doctors. Don't assume the worse, but check to make sure! Please don't worry all weekend..

Anastasia,

I too agree, and am hoping that you've gotten some information and some relief since your first post. Please let us know how everything's working out.
