Good morning everyone.
I am going today to make an appointment with a counselor today.  Ive seen her before and she was nice but I'm not really sure if she's qualified to deal with me.  ie with my eating complex and marriage problems plus the anxiety and deppression too.  I dont know but I hope she can help.  I know that to make my marriage work I'm going to have to work on me too.  I am finding my anxiety and OCD worsening with my job.  I work at a grocery store as a cashier and when someone brings meat through my line I freak out.  When they leave I spray down everything and germ x my hands to death.  And if someone tells me they have been sick or buys pepto bysmol or anything related I totally freak out.  So my germaphobia is worsening.
But anyway, I was wondering if yall have any good advice on how to tell my therapist all of this.  SHe is a Christian based counselor and a women with a family so I think that is a plus.  What should I look for in a therapist though.  I am really ready to kick this anxiety/OCD/depression in the butt!  I am so sick of it ruining my life.  I dont want it to control me and my thoughts any more!  I am getting very mad at it.  I wish I could take out my brain and disect it so that I could remove all of this crap!  But I am vearing off topic.  I guess I am afraid that she wont be able to help me.  And if she cant I will have wasted time and money.  I dont know, I guess I'm just afraid of failing.  Sometimes I wish I could go to a mental hospital for a while.  But I would be the sanest person there and they would look at me like I was crazy.  Sometimes though I think that is the only way.  Vearing again, sorry.  My brain is crazy this morning.
So if anyone has any advice please give it!  I'm all ears!  I have to go to get ready now, going to a nursing home to sing this morning.  Pray for me, that I wont let my anxiety ruin this too!  Thanks everyone!

Thirsty,

If this counsellor doesn't seem to be helping you don't be afriad to try someone else. I have seen many a counsellor in my day and some weren't worth it and some CHANGED my whole world. Have faith that you will find the right person to work with. You sound so determined sweetie, I don't think it's posible for you to fail! Bless

From one OCD'er to another, I know where you are at as far as the germaphobia is concerned.  Purell is my best friend.  I saw a counselor for a while the end of last year and along with all the other "issues" I was talking to her about, she said germaphobia wasn't the worst thing to have.  Now, as far as mine escalating, it has to a degree and she did say there are counselors that strictly deal with OCD issues.  I hope you like the counselor and feel comfortable talking to her.  As far as what questions to ask or how to talk to her, that comes from inside you and how much or how little you want to reveal or feel comfortable talking about.  Let us know how it goes. I'm very interested in hearing what your counselor says about the germaphobia, etc.
