Hi

I don't know much about anxiety however I know that I do suffer from it. Out of no where I will have a negative thought and it will go from something small to something that I cannot get out of my head. Does that make sense to anyone? My partner is in the defence force and is going to be deployed soon so I want to get this sorted out before he goes away.

What I want to know is what skills should I acquire to a) stop the thoughts going around and around in my head with the hope of being able to nail it on the head when I feel my anxiety coming on and b) is this normal? Cause I feel really odd at the moment

At present I am not on any medications. I wasn't sure if it was bad enough for me to justify going on them.

Does diet and exercise contribute to this disorder?

Thanks for your help guys I really appreciate it.

Hi Marti, welcome to HW. I hope you like it here.

Firstly, it makes complete sense to me that you get a thought in your head that takes over. Happens to me all the time! Nothing abnormal there, especially considering your current stress. But it is something you can work on and get better at over time. I'm a big fan of CBT counselling (you can access it online..moodgym) and positive thinking.

A diet free of caffiene, preservatives and fatty foods has helped me more than I can believe (although I do sneak in chocolate!!)..and I try to jog a few miles every day to get rid of the excess adrenaline..

Marti, you are NOT odd, trust me! You have a huge stress in your life, take it one day at a time, take care of diet and exercise and if things gets worse, please consult a doctor. You are not alone in this. Keep us posted.

Thanks so much Meg. I had tears welling cause I was happy to read what you posted. Do you think that people can be completely cured from anxiety or is it something that we battle throughout our lives on and off?

Has anyone ever had hypontherapy for it and would you consider that as a treatment?

Hi Marti,

I LOVE hypnotherapy, it works wonders for me in terms of learning how to be in the "here and know" without fear. I would recommend it to anyone seeking relief from stress (but I am not a doc!) Anxiety, I think, is something we learn to live with..we have great days, we have bad days, same as everything else. Without anxiety we would not exist. It keeps us going, but when we have too much of it, out of the blue, it is hard to praise it. Nya!

If you feel things are getting worse, or just not feeling that life is "right" then please talk to your doctor. Many of us on this forum swear by our meds, no shame. Don't feel you are "giving in" if you need meds, sometimes our bio-chemistry just needs a tweak. Please let us know how you are going, if you need to discuss anything you can email me (lil envelope under my name)

All the very best Marti,

Meg
