I have Ulcerative Colitis and am around that forum but I really think I may have an issue with anxiety. I was wondering if you all can tell me if I'm right to want to see my primary care doctor or if she will think I should just deal with it. When my uc is flaring I have huge urgencies and have to use the bathroom fast (like pull over the car fast). Well for the past year I have not been able to stop worrying about using the bathroom, even if I'm well. As soon as I get into a car, where there is no bathroom, I get sweaty and feel sick. I worry the entire drive that I might not be able to make it (doesn't matter if I'm going 10 miles or 100). I don't want to go out of the house anymore and when I do go out I worry for days before I have to go somewhere. I refuse to ride in a car with any one other than my fiance because I don't think any one else can pull over fast enough for me. I have a 6 month old daughter and I don't want to live my life like a hermit. I feel consumed by this worry and there is much more important things I should be worrying about but I can't concentrate. I don't really even know how to go about getting help. I called my Primary care doc and have an appointment today. I have to leave an hour before my 20 min. drive becasue I know I'll have to stop a lot. Does this sound like an anxiety disorder (I know you are not doctors but I feel so alone)?

Welcome to the A/P forum
No I dont think it would hurt to see your doc about this at all
Sounds like a bit of anticipatory anxiety going on with you

I would talk to doc and ask if there is something you can get to calm you down and not have you so stresed out about going out

I have Crohns and I know something about what you are going thru I use to plan my trips around bathrooms .........

I am on a benzo for anxiety and panic over many things
including having chronic illness such as crohns

YOU are definitely NOT alone in this and
I am so glad you came over to ask it does help asking questions for sure

Along with meds you can use in self help techniques to get you thru alot of this
Check out the link at top in Resources with Wens name at end ot if
to see if any of these will help you

Plz dont be a stranger here it is fine to post in any forum and like
As said it is good to ask questions

Hi,

You are not alone in this, trust me. It does sound to me like you are having some anxiety, and I can certainly understand why. I have IBS and I panic at the thought of long trips, even with family and friends. I haven't been on public transport, since well, too long to remember! I think it would be a great idea to discuss this with your doctor. Sometimes they can be useful! I wish you all the best.

I think it's normal to have anxiety when one has a chronic condition like that with which you suffer and I think you might benefit from medication.

Good luck to you in seeking treatment and feeling better.

Hey Kali,
Yes, sounds like you may have anxiety too. I hope that your doctor really listens to your concerns because I understand the feeling of not wanting to leave the house. Let us know how it went. We are all here for you so keep posting!!! Love to you!
