no, I'm a nut also...haha

I have 3 cats and have had more than 6 cats at a time and I talk to them VERY strange.
I think most pet owners talk funny to their animals

I've always had a different way of talking to each pet I've owned. The two sisters I have right now get spoken to in very different ways. I guess I respond to what their personalities are. No "oogie-woogums" baby talk though, although I have come close sometimes!

And the pets are so soothing when it comes to anxiety. They can't fix it, but they can give unconditional love, and that helps so much.

I have two dogs, one's name is Dharma, who gets to be called Dharma Day, and sometimes Dharma Pay Day.

My other dog is Chance, who gets called Chancie pants pie. I got that from the movie called Drop Dead Fred. Pants pie, who would have ever thunk it?

Luv and hugs, Karen.

PS for some reason all of my pets get middle names. LOL

help your anxiety and they can help with BP as well

I'm so relieved to find out I'm not the only who talks or talks baby talk to their pet, was beginning to wonder about my sanity rolleyes I've got a little dog, Buster and I'm home alone with him all day and talk to him fairly constantly. I cannot list all of the "pet" names I have for him as there are so many. It's very rare that I actually call him by his true name. But a few are Buster Brown, buster boy, buster beagle, but then there's the off the wall ones like sugar butt...what his butt is white! Muttlette, pupplette, puddle pup, snuggle boy...the list goes on and on. I find him to be a true comfort during the tough times and a whole lot of fun during the good. He truly is my best buddy and although he has some irritating quirks, I wouldn't trade him for the world!

I don't exactly have pets of my own but have "adopted" my Mom and Dad's cats (one now in heaven) and the other one has always been kinda my baby even though he lives with my parents.  His name is Bandit but I call him "Bits" and yes I talk to him as if he were a real person.  He such a wonderful listener (even perks his ears up or down at the appropriate times and I swear he smiles at me).  Yeh, cats are my fave but like dogs too.  Great for easing anxiety too.  Seems no matter how bad the anxiety is or how bad a day you have, coming home to a pet somehow eases the pain.

Pets just have this uncanny ability to know when we need love (and when to stay away smhair !!)

My kitten will follow me around all day when I am feeling down and my cat knows to give me plenty of purry cuddles when I am anxious. They are my support tag team!

Megs,
I can picture you with your kitten following you around.  My "Morgan" (dog) insists we take a nap everyday at 1:00 PM and she will get on my bed and bark when she is ready...............who's da boss?

Kitt,

That's so funny about your dog. Mine will bark like crazy and jump all over me when HE decides it's treat time and it always works. Our pets certainly have us well trained!

We weren't allowed pets in our complex ... but my girls were so traumatized , and I knew that owning , caring for a pet would help them a great deal... so that was the only rule I agreed we could "break". we started out with one little hamster named angel, then another named Precious. we were in and out of pet stores... pretty soon, the pet store owners knew what softies we were, so would call us whenever they had a small caged pet that couldn't find a home because it wasn't adoptable... ie.... we ended up with one eyed fish, one eyed hamsters... one legged budgies...geckos, guinea pigs, bunnies... . etc.... Over the years we had 33 little critters.(not all at once ) We brought home a miniuature bunny one day from the SPCA. We thought we were bringing home a little "girl bunny" so we named her Phoebe... 3 days later. my oldest daughter announces that this is no little girl. Well poor Ash cried for 3 days.... didn't want any "men" in the house. It was amazing to watch her overcome her fear and come to love that little thing. ... who she named Phoebo.... but ended up being Boo for short.
The girls watched as our little guinea pig Maggie had her litter of 4....
Each animal brought healing to them in their own special way. Mind you... I was cleaning cages till the cows came home. No sooner had I finished , it was time to start again.
We volunteered in a animal rescue agency when all our little guys had passed on. Ended up bringing home three cats... Sammy, Moses( who was so teeny I had to feed him with a eye dropper) and miss Cleaopatra. Unfortunately after 3 years of trying to keep our cats off the window sills we were " caught" and had to find new homes for them. But boy we tried everything.l... the curtains were pinned all the way to the ceiling and ducted taped to the wall.... miss Cleopatra was the worst one for figuring out how to get past all that and still end up on the window sill. It broke our hearts to have to give them up...but we knew that going in. We still volunteer at that animal rescue .... it is therapy that cannot be compared!
I'm glad to see how many of you have pets.... they are angels in my opinion... unconditional love heals many , many wounds!

Mary,

That was a great post and I am glad you did find a way to bring pets into you girls lives.  My dog is a bed hog and I woke up early as she was in the middle of the bed last night so I got up and came here for my doze of HW.

Mary,

That's a lotta critters! I'm glad your daughters grew up with pets. I belive that some rules are meant to be broken. We are not supposed to have pets in our house either, but I make more mess than them so I don't see the point! We just hide them come inspection time.

Kitt,

I love it! Your Dog makes you have a nap..how wise. My Kitten will sit on my lap and purr so I can't get up without feeling guilty. That's her way of slowing me down. :-)

Ahhhh, critter talk. This is a nice forum! I have 7 cats - supposed to only have 6 with my permit for multiple cats, but as a volunteer at our local animal services, they were about to put down this big, beautiful, loveable, dark brown seal point siamese in 15 minutes to 1/2 hour, so I grabbed him and fostered him, had a friend adopt him for me so I could keep him. What a love-bug! All the cats are. I loved hearing the cat names on here... I have Fuzz "Black-Toe" (He has one black toe, the rest are white w/pink pads), Beijo "Belly-Button-Tender-Heart", Autumn "Flowers", Graciela "la-la-la" or "Amazing Gracie", Jules-Verne "Moon-Diamond", Marilia (too new for extra name), and Xango (very latest rescue). I definitely talk to each of them per their personalities, which are all soooo different. They definitely keep me alive, purpose-driven and less anxious!
