Has anyone had experience with this med? I've been put on it for anxiety and depression about my 6th different one in the last year alone. It's only been about 3 to 4 weeks now but today I've had some really dark thoughts. I'm so sick of withdrawing and starting over has anyone found a really good one?

Aussie,

Lose the dark thoughts and look at all the options that may help you with the depression.  Check our resources too.

I am on Cymbalta and I see my Pdoc tommorow...........I want to wean off it and I am not sure what we will agree on next.  I too have tried many meds.  I am beginning to think I may try going without a AD but we will see. I do take antianxiety meds.

Take care,
Kitt

What has worked for me is Klonapin (Generic - Clonozopam) for anxiety.  I also take a small dose of Lexapro in the morning and a small dose of Trazodone at night which, along with helping depression, helps me sleep, along with the Clonozopam which I take morning and evening (and day when needed).

give it another couple of weeks IMHO............

I have tried every SSRI and Cymbalta has been the best so far............(correct dosing is everything, so if your doc wants to adjust it I'd give it a try)

... and every body has a different make-up, so it's best for the doctor to decide, IMHO.

Hi Aussie,

I know what you mean about going on meds, coming off meds, withdrawing, going on a new one, side effects etc...but it is all worth it once we find the medication that suits us. I can't take anti-deps, but I do take Ativan occasionally to help with sleep. Shine some bright light on those dark thoughts! It's good to have you back with us. smilewinkgrin

Here, kitty, kitty,

Welcome to HW! I hope you like it here. Oh no..my cats have come running! lol.

Hey, thanks for the welcome!  :-D

Aussie,

I went through a really difficult time when they were putting me on med after med,

switching every month or so, changing dosages... one thing is for sure - when I started

having dark thoughts, I would definitely request either a change of dosage or a different

med.  (Why am I double-spaced??)... anyways, some of these drugs can cause this and

it's not you, it's the med.  I'd immediately call the doctor about the dark thoughts.  I

haven't taken Cymbalta, although my doctor suggested it.  I'm scared to switch anymore

after the experience I had with, well, I was misdiagnosed and way over-medicated and,

since we're anonymous here, was sexually abused by my therapist over a 6 month period.

That's 5 years behind me now, but it still makes me shiver.  Ack!  Off-topic, sorry!

Just wanted to impress the importance of letting the doc know immediately about any

dark thoughts, and if it's only since you've taken this med, then (well, if it were me, as it

was me before), I would go off of it.

Thanks everyone for replying, I see my pdoc on Monday and spoke to him on the phone the other day. He said to remember the dark thoughts are transient though today they've been constant but I also know if I felt I'd act on them I would call for an ambulance to take me to hospital. I'm on the highest dosage I assume 180mgs a day.

P.S. I haven't been in hospital at all this year so one major positive.

Your pdoc is right,

The dark thoughts will pass, don't pay them attention. But you are right to have a safety plan. Please call an ambulance if you get overwhelmed. Your health is number one priority at all times. Hope monday goes well.

Hugs,

Meg

Hey Aussie,

That's great to hear you'll call an ambulance if you feel you would act on the dark thoughts!
You sound like a very strong individual and very inspiring! Hang in there! Although I can
see that you are! Keep writing when you need to! :)

Well the dark thoughts have passed, now I just feel depressed. I'm so sick of all the swapping of meds trying to find one to work.

Aussie,

I am glad the dark thoughts have past, and I know how you feel about all the med switches.  It is tough to start and new one and then go through all of the side effects of getting onto the med.  That only makes you feel down but don't let it.

You fight back and set your daily goals.  Just take it one day at a time and you will make it.  We are here to support you.

Hugs
Kitt
