Is there anything natural (like vitamins or supplements) that help fight the withdrawal of ativan?

Currently down to .25 mg x 2 per day and been at that dose for about 1.5 weeks.  I am have not gotten rid of the brain fog, stomach aches, headaches, and heavy feeling in the chest from this decrease in dose.  Can I take anything to help?  When I dropped from .05 mg x 2 per day to .05 mg x 2 every other day and .25mg x 2 every other day.

I only have about 10 - 0.5mg pills left of ativan and my DR prob wont give me more (new Dr since the old one left) because he wants me on Paxil.  But I dont need my stomach hurting more than it does because I have colitis and paxil causes "frequent bowel movements" which I dont need more of.

Just looking for some advice

Thanks!

Hey there,

Whoa, that is a nasty problem. I was at 4 mg of Ativan per day but switched to Valium to wean off as Valium is a longer acting benzo and you can go much slower so I did not suffer any withdrawal but it took a long time.

If Paxil is causing you to have digestive problems, I would make and appointment to see your physician and tell him your symptoms.  There are so many AD to choose from he should know which one would be a better choice for you.

I don't know any home remedies, sorry.  I hope another member has more info for you.

Gentle Hugs

You can try something called L Theanine. My friend is using this to ween off Wellbutrin

When you're detoxing off any med, you have to make sure you eat very clean, exericse and drink a lot of water. Helps the liver excrete the toxins from the meds.

What do you mean by eating clean?  I dont really eat too many foods that are bad for me mainly because they upset my stomach.

usually eat chicken, turkey, ground buffalo, salmon, and other low grease meats.  Very rarely I will eat a steak.  Rice, potato, rice noodles, green beans, cucumber, and other lesser fiber foods.  Fiber just goes right thru me.

I made an apt with my Dr and we are going to try Zoloft now (cant wait to start to gain that weight- I hope).  He said that if i needed anymore ativan just call him and we could talk about it.  I am still at .25 mg x 2 per day and I am begining to come out of that fog from dropping the dose... it sucks that it takes about a week for the tapering side effects to go away- and then it is time to drop another dosage.

Dr doesnt want to try valium because he says that much like ativan it is just putting a bandaid on a cut that needs stiches.  the other meds we are trying will supposedly help get to the root of the problem.

I wll look into that L Theanine since I will be coming off of wellbutrin.
