Can anyone give me some advice? For about the past month I have had major Dirreha Im only going like 2 times a day but when I go its like Im constipated and got Dirreha the rest of the day I feel bloated and have gas. I have tried changing my diet to more healthy foods and drinking more water and still got the same results. I have had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy and the doctor found nothing also have had my stomach x rayed and still he found nothing. Now I am going back out to Iraq so Im not gonna lie I get extremely stressed out and I remember the last time I was there about 2 years ago I remember walking to work and feeling like I was out of breath I suddenly got the chills it was crazy. When I got on the plane to go on leave from Iraq I suddenly felt chostraphobic now none of these things have EVER happened to me before in my life. So as it stands now I have chronic Dirreha my question is could this be due to depression or anxiety or both so if anyone could help me out and shed some light on this I would really appreciate it. post on here or please send me an email to my address its

Hi mrperez123,

Welcome to HW, I hope we can help you out here. I needed to do a tiny edit of your post, if you want to put your email address up please go into the control panel (up on the right next to log off) rather than in your post. We have spammers who will come along and pick up your email address and I don't want that. :-) !!! Neither do you I'm sure.

I am not a doctor, but I have experienced something similar to what you are going through. I have had the tests and they are all "inconclusive" so I have been diagnosed with IBS. It is incredibly frustrating, but I believe (for me) that it is anxiety related. The more anxious I am the worse the symptoms. I can see that if you are going back to Iraq that you must be highly stressed, do you get any counselling or therapy for this? I would highly reccomend it. We also have an IBS forum on the HW site and they are full of great advice on all of your symptoms.

I wish you all the luck, and again sorry for the edit, but if you put it in your control panel people can contact you. Thanks,

Meg

Welcome!

You've found a safe, caring , and reliable support community for people battling Anxiety and Panic.. We have many members here who will be glad to lend an ear, offer information, and provide support for people who need it.

Constipation and Diarrhea are both symptoms of Anxiety.

Have you ever been in therapy. CBT is a good choice for people with Anxiety.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to  feel / act better even if the situation does not change. There is a free online site you may want to check out.

Hi!

I assume that your doctor also ran tests for intestinal parasites. A friend of mine was travelling in less developed nations for a bit and came down with something. (I think it was common ol' giardiasis, but not sure.) At any rate, it gave her diarrhea very badly for months and took quite a while to treat. It also increased her anxiety.

Obviously, anxiety is part of your daily life there, parasite or not, and it's not surprising that you're not feeling healthy. CBT really has been a big help for me, and I hope you're able to find a therapist who can help you deal with the stress and the claustrophobia.

There are many causes to diarrhea, anxiety is only one cause, though I'm not sure if would give you daily diarrhea.

Is it watery or loose? Does it have a bad smell?
Like Percy asked, were you ever checked for parasites?
Were you overseas or just came back and the diarrhea appeared?

IT is watery and it doesnt really have a smell I have been overseas many times and always came back fine. It wasnt until recently when I found out I have to go back out to Iraq that it started up again. The last time I was there I started to experience it right before I left and like clockwork now that I am going back it comes back also.

That really sounds like anxity to me. If it comes back under high stress then that is a huge red flag. I suggest you get some help with working through the anxiety. Hopefully this will ease the bowel issues.

Good Morning

As usual Meg is right on.  If it comes with anxiety, which it seems to then I would agree it is a sx of your anxiety.  I would suggest seeing your Physcian just to rule out any other reasons for the diarrhea.

I am sure you are stressing about your return to Iraq. I will pray for you and know we all care.

Take care and keep posting.

I am sorry you have to wait so long to see a physician............are you still stateside now?

I have anxiety and when it flairs I have a hard time just getting through the day.  I have accepted my disorder but that does not mean I like it. I would love to kick it to the curb.

One of the best simple ways to deal with Anxiety is breathing. Simple things like inhale to your lungs full capacity, hold it, then exhale imagining all of the stress to leave your body with the air that is exhaled. Getting yourself to a quiet calm place is another way to help and be able to breathe. Imagining a beautiful scene in your mind, counting to 100, counting your breath and trying to slow it are all techniques that really do help.

Another way of dealing with Anxiety is to be proactive with it. Understand what your triggers are. Think about them. Maybe write them down and the reasons you feel that they are your triggers. Try and focus on solutions to these triggers to avoid it happening in the first place.

Remember you have a whole group of people on HealingWell that care about you and support you.  You have us to talk to, vent if you need to and know we care about you.

Hugs
Kitt

Have you been taking iron supplements? Or eating Lucky Charms?

I once had diarrhea every day for 6 weeks and couldn't even eat a peppermint. It was Irritible Bowel Syndrome and I was put on meds that really calmed things down.

You will be in my prayers.
