Just reaching out for support today. The doc found blood in my urine at a doc appt the other day. I don't have a UTI so they want to do another sample and if I still have blood present they want to refer me to a urologist. I have also been having some dull pelvic pain and I am now FREAKING OUT! Apparently this could be a symptom of bladder cancer or stones? I had to go to a urologist for monthly exams when I was little because I had urethra reflux and just the thought of even going there is making me hurt. OK, calming down now, thanks for listening.

pannicu,

Big Breath and let it out.  You are going to be OK.  We all do it, think of the worst thing first and when it turns out to be something minor that we have never heard of we promise never to do that again.

cry   cry cry Anticipate the Worse Illness Ever"  cry cry cry   Stop, big breath and then scream.

Just kidding, you did that well, vent and write it down.

Hugs to you

Kitt

Ok, I didn't scream because my kids are home. I am imagining the worst and made the mistake of symptom surfing. I should know better by now! Thanks for the kind words. You folks are so much better at that then DH. I just told him what's going on with me healthwise and he said, "well, you got to take care of it, you can't just do nothing!". Did I say I was going to do nothing? No, I said I was a little nervous about it because it could be something bad or nothing at all, but I was nervous. So helpful! AHHHH screaming online so the kids don't hear. Thanks1 :-).

Paniccu,

Scream all you need okay. No judgements here! It sounds like you did really well talking yourself down from that high anxiety though. Kudos to you. When you feel that anxiety creeping up just try and think that it has been picked up quickly and you are getting it checked out soon. Try not to get into the nasty "what if's" and try and think in the positive. (hard I know) and stop symptom surfing!! You are part of our family and we care about you. Keep us up to date K?

It's normal to be nervous, but don't freak out. The first thing I thought was stones. No big deal...something that can be treated. Remember, 99% of all of our fears never come true. Most likely it's a minor problem that can be fixed. Don't surf the web - let the doctor do his/her job. In the mean time, find something else to keep you busy, and don't even think about it. By the way - pelvic pain can be caused by anxiety. I went through something similar recently and it turned out to be nothing. I bet if you stop thinking about it, your pain will either diminish or go away. Try it and see.

Thanks everyone. I think my anxiety is making things worse, as usual. I am so aware of every little feeling in my pelvic region the last couple of days.  I would really like to find a good anatomical diagram to see where all my organs are. Does anyone know of a good website? I can't seem to find one.

Hi, just to let you know that I went through all this with a friend of mine a couple of months ago.  She was convinced she was about to die of cancer because blood was in her urine.  She had the kidney scans, bladder checked..... all she had was some inflammation because she doesn't drink enough water.  There were LOTS of people all having the same checks done.... I think it is a very common thing to happen.

He there Paniccu,

How you doing sweetie?  If you had a kidney stone that was moving, you would have tons of pain.
You may want to be sure you drink lots of water.
Then remember to stay in the moment.........it takes practice, but I know somehow you will do this.  Try a nice warm bath with your favorite scented candles.  Picture in your mind a beautiful scene.

Thanks Kitt! As usual you are so sweet. The dr's office was supposed to send me the container to give a sample at home, but it never came so I just went in there today. I am not having severe pain, but I have increased pain that's not going away. It feels like a rubber band is wrapped around my pelvis. I am still hoping that I somehow just have a UTI, but I'm over the major anxiety with seeing a urologist. I just want to know if I need to and make the appt at this point. Jan Marie, I didn't know it could just be from not drinking enough water! I do usually drink a lot, but it's good to know it could be something as minor as that. Thanks for checking in on me, I appreciate it.

paniccu,

I am glad your pain has not gotten worse but yes if your concerned I would follow through with the urologist.  A simple urine sample should tell if you have a UTI  and a urine culture could identify the pathogen.

Please know I am thinking of you and take care of you.

Thanks Kitt. I did give another urine sample yesterday, so I will know soon whether or not I do have a UTI. The first time they checked I didn't though. Is it possible to have one a week later, when I only had blood in my urine and no infection before? This waiting is driving me a little crazy.

Hey Paniccu

I went through a similar situation about a year ago , i to went to a regular doctors appoint and they had found blood in my urine.....and they continued to run test on me for about a month after that, doing ultra sounds and x-rays to make sure it wasnt anything serious. I guess what scared me the most was that i was also experiencing pain in my pelvic area. well turns out that they just diagnosed it as chronic hematuria, which they assured me i would be normal despite the fact there would always be blood in my urine. since then ive had these thoughts in the back of my head, i continue to worry and wonder what could possibly be causing this...what could be wrong with me, even though the doctors have assured me i am fine, and i know that this sort of thing has been the cause for my anxiety and panic....i guess i turn something that is wrong with me into something alot bigger...another example for me would be suffering from acid reflux and worrying that it was my heart that was causing chest pains...well anyways i just wanted to share my experience with you, and i know that receiving news like that from your doctor is scary.....well hope to hear again from you soon, and i hope you will get better soon!!!

Hey Freezerburn,
thanks for sharing your story with me. I am wondering if my pelvic pain has become worse because of my anxiety. I had some bloating, but no pain until the day after the doc told me about the blood in my urine. It's been hurting since last Friday though, is that possible? Is that what happened to you? I should get the test results by tomorrow, so at least I'll know if I need to see a urologist soon.

Good Morning Paniccu
Anxiety can certainly cause your pain to feel worse.  Here are a few ideas for you to try to keep that anxiety down.

Realistic self-talk: While we can't always control what happens to us, we can always control what we say to ourselves. It's important to keep things in perspective. Talk to yourself in reasonable ways. Ask yourself "how likely is my fear?" Remind yourself that you have coped before during other challenging times. Don't just dwell on the "what ifs" but consciously look for things you can appreciate every day.

Make an effort to stay focused on what's happening now. What do you see, hear, and smell? How do you feel? Truly be 'present' in the moment! That will help you keep the anxiety down.

This is the one thing that helps me most. Keep us posted on your pain and I hope your test results are ready early in the day tomorrow.

Gentle Hugs
Kitt

Just have to vent. I'm not too anxious anymore, but the doc still hasn't called with the results! I called at 12 and they were at lunch. Called at 2 and got their vm. Left a message to please call me today and let me know. No call. Called at 4pm thinking they would be gone by 5PM and got their answering service again. They are already out for the day. Are you kidding me?! Start at 9AM, 2 hr lunch and gone at 4PM, must be nice! I guess no news is good news as far as the UTI, but I would like to know if there was blood in my urine, which they could have told me by now, 3 days later I'm sure. Grrrr! As always, thanks for listening. Now I have to get through the weekend without thinking about it.
