HI

I have been taking xanax for several years.  First becuase the panic attacks were evident and would come on stong. Then just as a safe guard.

Well it's time to go off .... and the Dr agrees to ween me slowly

Btw I was on the lowest mg. .25 and one a day -- so it seriously was for that moment when I thought I would die from heart palpitations.  What has happened is it is a crutch now for absolutely nothing emotionally driven.

So I will step down and reduce my intake 1 every other day etc.

Anyone else try this

would love some support :)

Peace
Renee

Well, for me it was Clonozopam for anxiety.  I've been on it for years (always took less than
required unless it was a really bad day(s).  I've tried several times to wean VERY slowly from
it, as well as Lexapro (for which I only take 10mg).  Once I got to .25 of clonozopam and
5mg of Lexapro, I suffered for two and a half or three weeks before I realized I still needed
to be on it.  I decided it's much better if I can function than to be in constant anxiety.

Oddly, the Lexapro is for depression, and cutting that down didn't create any depression,
just added anxiety.

Hi Renee,

Welcome to HW, we are a supportive network here :-) ..I'm so glad you have a sensible doctor who will wean you down slowly. .25mg is a low dose so it shouldn't cause much of a disruption to your system. Just remember that you are in charge of reducing the dose, if you start getting side effects that you can't cope with, let your doc know straight away. Don't be bullied if you feel that things are moving too fast.

I was on 6-8mg of xanax a day (huge dose I know) at one stage, and my doc switched me to 60mg valium a day and we reduced it down slowly from there. It took 18 months but I was xanax/valium free for quite a few months before I realised I needed to take it again. I now only take as needed. It can be done! The key is to go slow and accept that you may have a few "hairy" days when you anxiety is higher than usual. Just keep in touch with your doc.

Again, welcome to HW, please let us know how you go, any concerns..we are here to listen.
