I would like to know. When you have had an obsessional thought that has consumed you in every way and then you get over it, how do you move foward. As in i dont care so much about the initial thought but moving foward from the thought is another thing altogether. aNd im not talking a week obsessing about something im talking months. because youve spent so much time worrying over it and was a big part of your life for a time its not even about the thought anymore its working through things that may have triggered the thought etc if you know what i mean. and when dealing with a stupid irrational thought its even harder. And also what do you do when you feel like, you are alone in your suffering like alot of ppl may have suffered the same thought that caused them distress so its more re assuring for the person but has anyone Ever felt they have been alone in a fear of something? that they think no one else may have had? because for example it may have been a rare mixture of events thaT leaded that person to have that irraional fear in the first place. like a fluke type thing. its such a scary world when you feel no one else could understand. if i wasnt a strong person im sure id be in the nut house by now or on drugs or whatevr it may be.  its just so hard and i wish i had someone to relate to who could understand but im not sure there could be as its so bizzare however if you knew my story you would see it as understandable why i had such a fear. its just alot of hard work moving foward from it. anyway thats my story.. rare things always seem to happen to me so there u go. and i wish i could just let it all out to everyone so i didnt feel like i was hiding anything i hate secrets and i like being as open as i can but its really hard bcoz i know that ppl would simply not get it. so i feel like i have to go it alone you know??

Hi Emz,

The irrational thoughts you are having may not be as wierd as you think. OCD can cause people to obsess over some pretty crazy things. Have you been diagnosed with OCD or is this just a hunch? I have mild OCD and at one stage in my life I couldn't drink out of glasses unless I had checked them over. I was sure there were drugs in the bottom. Rationally I knew there weren't but still I just HAD to check, every time. This messed up my social life let me tell you.

I got over this particular obsession by using CBT and by forcing myself to out to a cafe and order a drink, and then drink it...it was scary but it passed. You say these obsession/thoughts are going on for months. I'm really not an expert so I don't know what is "normal" but honestly you are most likely not alone in this. We have quite a few other members who have OCD and they may have some more tips for you. I find when I have these thoughts I have to go out and challenge them, or if I can't then I need to journal about them or talk to a therapist.

Please don't feel you are alone in feeling these things. If it is seriously worrying you please see a health professional okay?

Cheers, Meg
