Just started 30mg of Cymbalta and would love for anyone out there that is on this med to give me any info they can.  The good the bad and the ugly.  I'm really hoping it works for me.
I was wondering if anyone has had a bad reaction to having a few drinks with this med.  I was on Paxil for a few years and at first I would get real sleepy when I had a beer but towards the end it didn't affect me at all. Anyway I would just basically like to hear from  people who have experience with Cymbalta, it's scary to start a new medication after being on another for so long.

Thanks,
S.a.s

No, he gave me the Cymbalta and told me to start it the next day in place of the Paxil. I was cutting the paxil, a 10mg in half. I had been doing that for probably 8 mths.

Hi s.a.s,

Welcome to HW. Cymbalta offers relief from symptoms of depression, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), diabetic nerve pain (DNP), and fibromyalgia.

Cymbalta has been approved for the treatment of depression and GAD and the management of DNP and fibromyalgia. It has been shown to improve:

  • mood, aches and pains, and anxious symptoms associated with depression
  • anxiety symptoms and functioning associated with GAD
  • pain associated with DNP
  • painful symptoms and functioning associated with fibromyalgia

Cymbalta comes in a capsule and can be taken once a day. The recommended daily dose for Cymbalta is 60 mg. Cymbalta is not recommended for those under 18.

I've not taken cymbalta, so I don't have any experience with it. We have many members here who are taking it or have taken it and I'm sure they can help you out. Stay in contact with your doctor and read through the possible side effects, if you have any worries tell your doctor. If you start out with a small dose and work up to a higher one then you should be okay under supervision. This said I am not a professional. Let us know how you go okay? I get scared taking new meds and it's normal to feel anxious about it. We are here to listen and support. Again, welcome.

s.a.s.

I am bipolar and suffer from severe anxiety.  I took Cymbalta for about 3 years with good results, helped the body aches and pains I get when I am depressed.  I had no adverse side effects at all.  And when I stopped Cymbalta, I had no problems either.  The reason I stopped it was that I began to suffer really bad anxiety and my pdoc wanted to try a different treatment.

Good Evening,

I take Cymbalta  60 mg. at bedtime.  It does not give me any side effects at that dose and works fairly well.

Megs has given you complete info on the med so I would refer to her post if you have any other questions about how the med works and of course always use your physician as the professional when dealing with medications.
