I was having a hard time for about 2 months and could no longer do it alone anymore. I was on xanax .25 3-4 times daily and all I would get is rebound anxiety. After my 25th time in the er in the last 2 weeks they finally figured out something else was going on so they sent in the crisis team and we talked and decided I needed to be treated inpatient so I went to a facilty where you are supposed to be there for 5-7 days but I was there for 15 days I learned so much on coping skills, how to deal with my depression and anxiety which unfortuantly come together and they started me on 20mg celexa and .5 xanax XR I got up to 3mg of the xanax XR and I feel so much better I went back to work after 2 months of not leaving the house I feel like me again I still have some bad days but I use my coping skills and everything I learned. I was so afraid of side effects from medication I wouldnt take them when I was home but to my suprise I have had no side effects at all. There is help out there for everyone so please dont give up WE CAN BEAT THIS NASTY DISORDER. I felt like there was no hope left and now I know there is.

Laura,

That's such wonderful news that things have turned around for you. I'm glad you're feeling able to tackle your depression and anxiety, and that your new coping skills have helped. What are the ones that are most successful for you, if you don't mind my asking?

Bravo to you!

There are alot of coping skills that I use now. The ones that work the best for me are as follows.

1. I write in my journal everyday

2. I know now that I can not change anyone but myself so why dwell on it

3. Breathing tech is very important

4. I live in today and am thankful when tomorrow comes. I try to only deal with today and not think about anything else but what is happening in that day.

5. I tell myself I am not gonna let this control me I have control. When a negative thought comes in my head I replace it with 3 positives.

Hope this helps

Laura,

Thanks for sharing! I want to try some of the things you're doing. Replacing the negative thoughts is a really good one. I've always - when I recognize the negativity - just tried to shut it out. Replacing it with something good is much better, because I'll bet it retrains the brain.
