Thank you so much Lyn and Sam. Your wrods mean so much to me.Thank you.

I am here for all of you too. Yes..I am on the bipolar board as well.

Yes..I will discuss things with the doc on Friday. I am 240 pounds..a bodybuilder..so I may just need a lot of dosage. But strange thing is 99% of everything I have ever taken has given me bad effects so my system is still very sensitive to meds.

Thanks so much Maz. I see you take 4mg a day of Xanax like I do. Sure does work doesn't it. I have been on it for 13 and half years. Diagnosed with anxiety at 16. Though I personally started noticing symptoms at 14.

Thanks again Lyn. Been looking over threads on Abilify. Though I have done hours of rsearch on Abilify from Google. But it really comes down to trial and error with some knowledge for good choices.

I told my doc I will only try one of three bipolar meds. That is Abilify..which I am on now. Then Lamictal if the Ab doesn't work. Then Geodon. These three have the least side effects apparently.

Concerned about this rash thing from Lamictal. Hesitate to try that if Abilify doesn't work. I read that only 3% of all people who take it get it. But I did not know it was fatal.

I have this thread in this section because I do take xanax for anxiety and was told that Abilify would help with my stress and anxiety too due to my bipolar. The racing thoughts, etc.

Thanks so much everyone that has responded to me since my last post. It means so much.

As for how I am doing? I am going down to 5mg of Abilify because I just took a 180 turn Friday. Everything is getting worse. So the doc told me to go down to the 5mg from 10mg. I started on 5mg the first week and then upped to 10mg the second as my doc recommended.

Was thinking about Lamictal but the rash concerns me plus I believe a moderator in Bipolar section told me that this is mainly for depression and not too much for mania.

Maybe someone here knows about this drug as well for anxiety and stress. they are my two worst problems.

But lately I have been in that brain fog phase. I will not put up with that(lol). Plus some blurred vision.

Anyone know aboyt Geodon as well?

As far as the benzos...I have taken them all and Xanax has worked the best for me with no side effects.

I heard some beta blockers like Inderal may help in ANTICIPATING a panic attack and help with t a pounding heart from anxiety. Thanks so mcuh for any info.

Steelerfan

Sorry the Abilify is not working out. I know how discouraging it is to have to go through the whole pharmacy trying to find the right cocktail that will work for you.

LAMICTAL is approved for the maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder to delay the time to occurrence of mood episodes in people 18 years of age or older treated for acute mood episodes with standard therapy.

I have depression and I was given Lamictal to try as a mood stabilizer.  Like you I was afraid of the rash.  I took a couple of pills and then my anxiety took over and decided for me........so I quit taking it.

Although most patients who develop a rash while receiving LAMICTAL have mild to moderate symptoms, some individuals may develop a serious skin reaction that requires hospitalization. It is not possible to predict whether a mild rash will develop into a more serious reaction. Rarely, deaths have been reported. These serious skin reactions are most likely to happen within the first 8 weeks of treatment with LAMICTAL. Serious skin reactions occur more often in children than in adults.

GEODON is a treatment for acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Symptoms of acute manic or mixed episodes may include:

  • Extremely high or irritable mood
  • Increased energy, activity, and restlessness
  • Racing thoughts or talking very fast
  • Being easily distracted
  • Feeling little need for sleep

In clinical trials, GEODON improved symptoms of acute manic and mixed episodes. No medicine works for everyone, and only you and your doctor can decide if GEODON may be right for you.

Inderal is an old beta blocker that is often used for "stage fright" Atenolol is another med in the same category.

Beta blockers can be helpful in the treatment of the physical sx of anxiety, especially social anxiety. Physicians prescribe them to control rapid heartbeat, shaking, trembling, and blushing in anxious situations for several hours.Reference: PDR, Prescription Drugs

Please remember I am not a professional but I sure do understand how you feel.  I will say a prayer for you that you and your physician will come up with a med that works for you.

Take care

Kitt

Thank you so much for all the info Kitt!!! That was so kind of you and very much appreciated.

Well..at least 4 out of 5 of those symptoms for acute mania are right up my alley so I hope if the Abiliy doesn't work the Geodon will.

I do get all you have said about the Inderal med. I mean the responses to social siuations.

I have tried Lithium and Depokote before. Too much disorientation. Zyprexa...same thing and the weight gain!!! So they are no gos.

I hear Topamax does give memory problems to every 3 people who use it. Hence the name "Stupamax" in California and "Dopamax" in other places.

Welcome SteelerFan

Glad you're here.  Usually, meds take more than two weeks to really kick in.  If Abilify is already helping some, that's a good sign.  Maybe give it a little more time?  This medication tightrope is a tricky one!

If you have to switch to Lamictal, I take it and have had no problems whatsoever.  No rash.  My pdoc said that that is very very rare.

Thanks so much Georgie Girl!

Well...the Abilify is making me out of still at only 5mg so it is not worth it. I will try Geodon. Only because that was my third choice with the least amount of side effects.

My second was Lamictal but my doc and everyone says that is more for depression than mania. And Mania is worse in me.

I have tried them all and the ones I haven't have just too many bad side effects reported.

Hi SteelerFan

I took Geodon and had a very bad reaction.  More anxiety and depression.  But that was just me.  Doc said "some people cannot take Geodon."  Others seem to have very good success.
