Hi All,

I'm still trying to get up the nerve to try an AD. I don't see a psychiatrist until Jan. 20 but I do have a scrip for celexa from a neurologist. Apparently my GP talked to the psych I'm going to see and he said he would use paxil or prozac for anxiety. I know I don't want to take paxil. The celexa, I've read, has fewer side effects and is easier to wean off of.

This is very important to me. I am drug phobic and just the thought of taking the meds sends me into a horrible state.

I have talked to several people who've used ADs for depression but it's harder to find folks who have anxiety like I do. My anxiety is bound up almost completely in physical symptoms -- nauseau, dry mouth, jitteriness and shakes, adrenaline rushes, feeling off balance, feeling dizzy, feeling like the leaning tower of pisa. This is one reason I'm afraid to take meds. I just want the physical symptoms to go away and I find it hard to believe pychotropic meds will do that. The physical symptoms bring on a lot of worry, anxiety, and fear -- or, as the doctors say, it's vice versa. Although I had the physical symptoms for some time before becoming consciously anxious, so to my mind the physical symptoms caused the anxiety.

Well, I'd love to hear people's feedback on celexa for this type of problem, or anything that worked for a similar problem. No horror stories, please!

Thanks,
Missy

Hi Missy

I was on Celexa for over a year i did not get any side effects but this medication did not seem to work for me. My doctor said Celexa has good results with people who have anxiety disorders i would chat it through with your psychiatrist. When it comes to AD i think you just need to trust your doctor and give them a go, i have tried 5 different types of AD and still have not found one that works for me.

I hope Celexa works for you.

Take Care

What are AD's? Sometimes trying a new med is better than suffering each day with the physical and emotional symptoms. Odds are you'll do fine on the Celexa. Give it a shot! Take your first pill and do some things around the house to take your mind off the first dose. You'll do fine!

I was on Celexa 9 or 10 years ago. I started with Buspar which was horrible for me, then I took paxil for about 6 months and I changed to Celexa because I'd heard there were less side effects. It worked pretty well for me and the only side effect I can remember was a sexual side effect. Eventually I weaned off of it and I haven't been on meds for about 8 years. I had no problems weaning off of it.
