Had my follow up with my doctor today. Let him know about my night time panic attacks, and that I am doing better with my OCD (and Health Anxiety) but not where I'd like to be yet. Still having some problems. He told me before that he treats OCD with a higher dose of antidepressants. So I went from 10 mg of Lexapro to 20 mg today. I hope that's pretty typical. I was nervous when I first started it, now I'm nervous doubling the dose. But going to be brave and do it, because I need relief! Today I took a nap and woke up with a panic attack. I think I brought it on because I wasn't wanting to take a nap in case I had one. Having anxiety over my anxiety now!

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is on 20 mg of an antidepressant? I sure hope it helps even more upping the dose.

  Hi jen77,

It's not too uncommon to start lexapro at 10 mgs and as you get use to it your doctor may up the dose to 20 mgs

as this was the same case with me starting out on 10 mgs then 20 mgs

  Cowboy up

I take 40mg of Celexa each day. My doctor started me on 20mg and after about 4 months uped my dosage to 40mg. It must be helping my anxiety, because I am certainly much better than I once was, however still not where I want to be. The only problem I experience with the higher dosage is when I miss a dose the next day I will have the dreaded "brain zaps" but once I get back on track the zaps are gone.

I used to also take alprazalam with my 40mg dose of Celexa and had no problems.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks! That does help, makes me feel better that it's pretty typical to get bumped up. The whole thing just makes me nervous, but I know I have to if I want to get better!

Jennifer, you may have little side effects from increasing the dose. I would think it would be a little anxiety. Give it some time but go for it! Like you said, you need relief. You'll feel better soon! Take care...Carol

Last night was a little rough, I did feel more anxious. I just told myself it was probably from going up on the meds, and it was okay. Hard to make myself believe, but what else can ya do! I had a hard time going to sleep, but things seem better this morning. Hopefully it's just a temporary side effect like some of you have experienced! Just gotta hang in there I know!

Jen,

I think the dosages for different antidepressants can vary a lot. I took 37.5 mg of Paxil CR daily for a long time, and a friend was on 60 mg (also Paxil) for a year or two at least. I now take 25 mg, but that's actually the second to lowest dosage possible, I think.

Good luck to you in adjusting. You're doing great in reminding yourself that there may be a few little bumps in the road, but that they can't hurt you. Bravo!
