Hi All

I was invited to a friends stag do today, this was to be a three day event and no doubt would involve a lot of drinking as this group of friends are heavy drinkers. I find it hard to say no and always end up doing/going to things even though I don't want to and, As some off you now I am struggling with alcohol at the moment so was not really keen on going. My anxiety levels were really high when i was talking to my friend on the phone and it could of gone either way. I ended up saying that I could only attend on the Saturday night this was very hard for me to do and may sound like a small thing but to me this was a small step in a bigger picture. I really struggle in social situations and this is why I drink. I am pleased I did not say I could attend the whole event and see this as a positive step.

Just thought I would share this with you guys.

Take Care

Ben

You did what you needed to do
The struggle will go on but you know that we are here for you
I am so sorry I was not around when you were going thru the rough times but I KNOW Lil sis would have been there for you and others

Are you drinking occasionally or will you be drinking non alcoholic beverages my friend

I have slipped a couple of times in my sobriety since 79 yet I have managed to stay straight and on the road since my last slip in 80

Hold onto your family' here and we will get you thru this...........

You are so well like here and an asset to the forum

Hi Ben!

That is so awesome that you were able to make a compromise that works all the way around. Don't feel bad about it because your healing is number one priority :) I also have a hard time saying no and being true to myself at times, because it is so darn easy to slip back into old habits. It is a stuggle, but I think you are doing great and should be very proud of yourself :) Please don't beat yourself up over the slips because we are all human and it takes the bad to make a better future!

Take care my friend and have fun during the stag just being you :)

Ben,

Whoooooo Hoooooooo my friend, what a great compromise you made and you made it through.  I am so proud of you.

Just keep thinking about the positive and taking it one babystep at a time.  I know the will power it takes to say no to things......

I cannot drink due to my meds............and I am blunt and upfront about it.  I used to listen to people tell me "comon, it is just one, you can have just one"  I finally got honest and said No, I cannot due to the medications I take but hey I love Diet Coke so I am fine.  smhair

Hold the line my dear friend.

Hugs

Kitt
