Ditto Nanners! I would try some therapy/CBT first...med.s (at least SSRI's) take several weeks to get going and maybe you could have mastered a few techniques to help you cope in that same time period. If possible, I would see a therapist in your area that specializes in anxiety and has knowledge of CBT or other stress management techniques.
It sounds like you are more fearful of the attacks coming back than actually experiencing them...so that's good. I cut my meds. in half about
a month ago and I have some days where I can't believe that I did that! But most days, I feel okay with it, I'm happier with fewer side effects and it allows me to work on alternative ways to cope. You would hate to back-track if you have been doing well thus far on lower medications.
That said, if the pressure continues and you aren't able to handle it on your own, certainly don't beat yourself up for taking care of yourself and taking the medication that you need. It's not worth being miserable!
