Ok so i went to my doc and she told me i am NOT crazy! She put me on 50 mg of sertraline, i used to take 25 on my first attacks 6 years ago and was now down with only 12,5 because my anxiety was very low! I'm at work and functioning but still very scared depressed that i must be crazy to feel this feelings! I feel like this obssession will never go away and that ill finally convince everyone that i'm crazy and end up on a mental institution. This thought is so scary and my doc said i need to wait a while for this fear to subside and for the meds to work. However, i feel so helpless that this obssession/fear will never go away and that i will never be happy again! Can someone reassure that it will pass and that feeling crazy is part of anxiety? Also, is 50 mg of sertraline a high dose? I'm sorry for bothering you guys só much with the same obssession!

If I am not mistaken that is Zoloft right?? If that is the case, I think that 50 mg is generally the starting dose, that is what the doc gave me when I took it. Remember these meds take a bit to kick in so maybe try to do some CBT or something in the meantime till that starts working.

Good luck,

Yup. Zoloft family but it's just another name. I just need to get this obsession that i'm crazy out of my mind! I'll try mood gym tonight! I hate anxiety and the obssessive thoughts! It's like a psych told you that there's no chances that you are crazy or going crazy but we don't believe them! I mean ugh, we are so stubborn!

Thank you SO much! I'm at work and I will NOT quit coming to work or doing anything because of this fear. I will overcome this!
As much as my anxious mind want to convince myself that I am crazy or slowly losing touch with reality, I know this is abo****ely ridiculous. My psych is one of the best in the country, went to Harvard and has been my therapist for over 2 years. I have have therapy with her every week and have for the past 2-3 years. I know that my mind is trying to trick me but I am going to be patient and wait for the meds to kick in.

I just feel defeated because less than 2 weeks ago I was perfect and almost coming completely OFF meds and talking to her about normal boy problems and being a normal young adult and I break up with a boyfriend and I'm here beleiving I'm crazy?? After almost 2 years of having my anxiety under control? Gosh, I need to be rational and stronger!!!

I am NOT crazy or going crazy!!

And if I am, lol, I'm going to enjoy life and be a happy crazy person, honestly.

Brazil if its any comfort to you when my daughter started Zoloft it started working fairly quickly for her. Hang in there, things will get better.

Nanners - Thanks! It has always really worked well with me. I was just taking a very very small dose 12,5 mg so my therapist basically said I wasn't even medicated. Now I'm starting back at 50mg and hopefully I will feel better!

Hi this is Kitt...........now stop with the crazy, no one here is crazy.  You are having a tough time right now and if you have been in therapy for 2-3 years......every week you are just taking a few steps backwards.  We all take steps backwards, you will win the war in the end.

1st of all I am surprised your Psychiatrist is doing therapy as now days it is very hard to find a Psychiatrist who does more then handle the management of the medical side of A & P and depression. You are very fortunate to have found someone like her. Use her well.

If you had weaned down to 12.5mg of the medication and have been put on 50 mg that would not be unusual.

The medication usually takes 4-6 weeks to work so please  lose the thoughts that your going to an institution...........you are not.  Start working on some of the things you must have learned in therapy all these years.
Post some of the good and wonderful things about you.

We want to help so please  know we care.
Hugs
Kitt

Hi there, I dont think 50mg is to much. Antidepresants work differently on each individual. I used to be on 100mg of zoloft which is the same. It worked very well for me at the time. I have since ceased that and am now on 20mg of lexapro. Trust your doc he has done the study to be able to perscribe the best medicine for your symptoms at the time. Just keep in mind if your gut keeps telling you that his dicission is wrong then maybe you should look into that later. See how u go. Best of luck gill.x
