Good Morning Family

turn  Thought we could use a laugh - please add your own to this.

You know you have panic disorder:

if you had a dollar for every time someone told you to just calm down and get over it you'd be a millionaire!

you cut your pills in half, half again and half once more until its basically dust for fear of OD'ing.

you've driven yourself to the Emergency Room and lied to friends/family about where you had been so they didn't think you were any crazier than they already do.

Your turn.......share with us, we need some laughs.

when you freak out and leave the groceries at the checkout because you cant handle waiting in the queue any longer

when you leave the movies right after the previews because you feel claustraphobic

when you cant enjoy a fancy restaurant because you are planning your escape route the whole time

when you want to punch the people that say "maybe you are just high strung?"

You don't need to read information about any symptoms of a medical emergency because you know them all by heart (because of course you tick them off in your head on a regular basis trying to figure out "which one" you've got).

If "You Could Be A Millionaire" had a catergory "Name that disease" you'd win every time.

No matter how many times the tests come up negative you think "they must have missed it again".

*these are great by the way... its nice to LOL about it for a change

It is fun to laugh at ourselves sometimes and laughter is good medicine.

You know you have panic disorder:

if you've suffered through a headache rather than risk a possible side effect of an over the counter pain reliever. (Ryes Syndrom, Kidney Failure, etc.)  rolleyes

if dying doesnt scare you anymore but the first 100 times it did.

if your therapist knows your number by heart because you leave so many messages.  smhair

Come on all fess up................. share with us.  smilewinkgrin   smilewinkgrin   smilewinkgrin

:|... Some of these apply to me very well... (especially that part about being in a restaurant *it can be any restaurant* and planning my escape route... *LOL* Heh, I always thought I was just being prepared... *LOL*)
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.

Great thread Kitt.  I can relate to sooo many of these.

You know you have panic disorder when:  the first phone numbers you enter into your new cell phone are your primary doctor, therapist, local ER and every specialist known to mankind.

I say this cause when I got my new cell phone last week this is the first thing I did before putting any family members or friends in.

You know you have panic disorder when you've had 8 hours of sleep, wake up at 8 AM and start having a million panic attacks and need to take xanax and ativan just to pass out to not have to experience the attacks.

You know you have panic disorder when...

"No, you're NOT having a heart attack" becomes a daily response from family members

You grip the hand of the poor passenger next to you on the airplane at every bump as you wonder why the darn benzo didn't calm you down enough for the flight!

You leave a full cart and haul 3 screaming kids out of Target on a regular basis (what is it about halogen lights?)

During rational moments you think, how can I be just as scared to death during this last attack as I was 22 years ago...and during the 5000 attacks in between...you crazy amygdala.

You pray and hope every day that the next attack never comes. But you finally reach the point of accepting that this is a part of you and all you can do is be prepared! An Army of One, right? :)

You know you have a panic disorder when:

 1. Every morning you wake up and jump on  the computer to see if anyone there has    posted  symptoms you are or have had . You say to yourself " Thank God"

  2. Everytime you go into the DR'S office for a health issue, " It's due to your anxiety"
      WHAT ??  (I don't know when that's going to end ?)  shocked
( even when you have proof of your sugar level dropping and feeling shakey ect )

3. You have a stash of your anti-anxiety meds in every bathroom, car, purse , ect...
Who cares if they turn into powder like pixi sticks... ( I'll lick the container if I have to! )

4. You are feeling light headed all of the time, and try to work thru your anxiety...
End up taking meds after you have felt like "chicken Little" for a few days.....Then end up in the Dr's office for a sinus infection, and find out you have a double ear infection....Not anxiety...
That one even made my DR Laugh...

5. You work in the health field, and are glad that you are at the clinic on a bad day surrounded by Doctors... "Just in Case"

Laugh with us folks

You know your having a panic attack :

when you just know you are dying but its the thought of leaving house to go to the ER thats making you panic <!-- / message -->

if you won't use a mechanical pencil for fear of the lead breaking and hitting you in the eye.

when you  search the internet for hrs making sure your panic symptoms match all the listed ones.

when it takes you twenty minutes to cross a road because your afraid a car will suddenly appear and run you down.
Next up..................... yeah   yeah   yeah   smilewinkgrin

You won't stare at the ceiling fan for fear of passing out. . .

When you are so overloaded with therapy info that you have to grab your paper sack. . .

You are shaking from exhaustion, but you just have to straighten the rug that's out of place :)

Keep em coming :)

Sam and Kitt, you have me laughing so hard I'm crying.

You know you have a panic disorder when:

you work in a hospital and are on a first name basis with ALL of the ER doctors and they know you by name as well (and not because you work together).

you carry a little ziplock baggy in your pants pocket with your anxiety meds in it EVERYWHERE you go (just in case).
