I've got an audition scheduled for this week for a play. It's nothing big, but I am kinda making a bigger deal out of it than I should because I have never auditioned before and really want to do this play!

I just overcame a huge battle anxiety, and something like ths would be the cherry on top of a perfect win. This is important to me-it may sound stupid but I want this-for myself. I am just nervous that once I actually get there, I'll freak out, mess up my audition, and totally screw it up.

One thing I am still not completely confident in myself is the way I speak. My mouth moves a funny way, and I think I have ugly teeth!  I think I just need to relax myself and not worry about that, and I'll be fine.
If anyone has any tips for relaxing, de-stressing, just anything to help me with my audition it would be really appreciated.

Congrats Taryn!!!

That is so cool :) Don't worry about how you look either, because after you have all the heavy makeup and costumes, you will look totally different to the crowd. Sounds like a lot of fun, and one tip I have for you that has been a miracle for many entertainers is to immerse yourself in your role, so you are effectively the character your represent. Lose yourself in it and just have fun. Take those anxious feelings and realize that they are just excitement, and use it to your advantage!

Good luck. . . You will be great!

That is great about the audition! You should feel really proud of yourself that you are going for it! Don't worry about the way you talk... who knows it might be just the unique standout that makes you fit the part better than anyone else. I tried out for a play waaaay back in highschool and they picked a girl who had a slight accent, she could pull off the character's french accent way better than the rest of us New Englanders!

I actually learned this in yoga but I apply it to when I'm getting stressed about something. When you feel yourself getting nervous just stop for a second, take a deep breath and tighten up all your muscles, hold, then exhale nice and slow and relax your muscles from head to toe (relax your eyes, unclench your jaw, let your shoulders droop, unlock your legs, stretch your toes) and just let go.

I'd just practice until you feel confident, and then go have fun! I'm sure you'll do great!

FANTASTIC!!! yeah

You know what? Whether or not you get the part doesn't matter: You are a success!
Whether you nail the audition or not doesn't matter: You are a success!

I've seen SO many auditions where the directors base their decisions not on how well someone reads the lines, or looks on stage, but on some intangible 'thing' about the person, and I think the personal accomplishments you have achieved will shine through in you... because YOU ARE A SUCCESS!!!

I'm proud of you, and thank you for sharing your success with us, because it inspires us all.
