Hi there my names Justin and I have recentley over the past 3 weeks been going through some major issues with my anxiety. It started when I was driving home from work one day and just out of nowhere got tight chest pains and felt like I was having a heart attack this was about a month ago. Im 24 years old and had panic attacks in the past when I was 17 but it felt nothing like this. I called an ambulance and was in ER all night had ecg`s done xray and blood pressure all which turned out normal although I remember the lady saying something about a little bit of "arritimia" but nothing to worry about. Since that night i have called out the paramedics about 7 times because I am convinced I am having heart attacks or heart pains all the time. Sharp pains that feel like they are in my pulse points followed my extreme dizzyness. went tothe docter and he gave me some prochlorperazine meds for a inner ear infection but again i read every single detail of the medicane packet and all the side effects put me off taking it as it says if u have "undiagnosed heart problems" etc etc. Its basically stopping mebeing able to do anything because im afraid something is really wrong and all the docter and hospital keep doing is missing it or pushing it off as anxiety. I was hoping I could get some sort of advice for dealing with this as my gf is really upset and does not know what to do as i keep going out and making trips to the er and telling her I have been different places because I dont want her to think im crazy or something.

Justinphil.... This definitely sounds like a case of anxiety to me. The tight chest feeling is a major symptom of an anxiety attack. It really can come out of nowhere. Even if you don't feel particularly anxious at that time...

Going to the ER so much is not a good thing... You need to get this anxiety under control. Has the doctor prescribed you any anxiety medication or recommended you go to a psychologist or psychiatrist? I know you're wary about taking medication... I know medicine has a lot of side effects, but sometimes, it is something you need to take in order to function from day to day and live your life.

Going to the ER so much is not living your life. And if something really wrong otherwise were to occur, you may be increasing the likelihood that the ER doctors and nurses will brush it off as anxiety.
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.

Yeah its tight chest sometimes but the majority is like sudden electric shock type pains either in my wrists or chest where my heart is just feels really strange. yeah my doc prescribed me some amitriptyline 10 mg but I am afraid to take them due to fear of it making things worse. he has not recommended a psychologist or psychiatrist but I am willing to do this if its going to help me. Yeah I hate the fact that I rely upon the er staff and my docter to make me feel better and I feel like I am wasting there time whenever I go now its as if they are getting annoyed with me for going there all the time.

Yeah... I understand how that is (with some of them getting annoyed with you, I mean)... But this is precisely why you need to restrain yourself. I think you should schedule a doctor's appointment... and talk with your doctor about referring you to a psychiatrist... or a psychologist... Someone to help you get your anxiety under control.

You won't know if it makes things worse unless you take it. Think of it like you're trying a new food. You don't know if you're going to be allergic to it or not, but you try it anyway... For the experience.

Take the medicine you were prescribed, okay?

And just to give you some perspective...

I once took five different medications for a good, period of time. This only helped me in the long run get my illness (I have other problems besides anxiety) under control. I didn't want to do it... But I had to.

We all have to do things we don't want to do, sometimes... This is one of those times. I have faith in you. You can do this, and you will turn out all right. :)

Thank you so much for your advice and yeah your right it is just like trying a new food im going to take it and see what happens and move on from there also I will arrange an appointment with my GP tommorrow and ask to be referred to psychologist as it seems this may help me to pinpoint where this is all coming from. thank you so much for your support celey im sure that I will be quite regular posting here as I cant see this being the last of my panics even though I wish it was.
