I've had chest pains ever since yesterday. I've been weaning off my Lexapro for about a month and am down to 2/3 of a pill. Yesterday and today I am SO anxious and jittery with these pains. I took 1/2 of a xanax for the first time on months. I know my Dr is going to tell me that I need to raise my Lexapro but I really wanted to get off of it. I was doing SO well. How long does it take for the Lex to get out of your system? Would it take this long for my seratonin to get low again and the anxiety symptoms to return? I just want to cry. cry I'm fighting the urge to go to the Urgicare!

(((P-Fit))) Ok I have not been on this med but have heard that it is very common to have some increase in anxiety when weaning off the med. I am glad you have the Xanax for those emergency times. I too use Xanax when I start feeling too anxious. Keep on with your weaning schedule, but remember that anxiety is part of the weaning process, but will get better. And continue using the Xanax to help in those rougher times.

Come here and vent all you like, we are always here for you!!!

P-fit,

I don't know anything about going off of lexapro either, but have weaned of xanax several times and know that sometimes that has caused my anxiety to increase for a while, but it always mellows back out.  Try to use some cbt and positive thinking to keep yourself calm.  I agree with nanners that you should keep on your weaning schedule and use the xanax as needed.  A small setback doesn't necessarily mean that your anxiety will come back full force...setbacks are a part of the anxiety process.  Hang in there and do come back when you need more support!

P-fit,

I know it is tough weaning off of the SSRIs/SSNIs.May I sugest that if your feeling anxious at 2/3 of a pill, you hold at that for a week and then start to drop down again.  It will give your body a chance to adjust to the lower dosage and yes I agree use your Xanax if you need to without feeling guilty.

Please remember I am not a professional. :-)

Gentle Hugs

Thanks for the advice. I think part of the issue may be the difficulty in cutting the pills to 2/3. I may not have taken enough. I also may have aggrivated my fibro at physcial therapy at that could be the reason for the chest pain. I'm just so sensitive to pain that if it doesnt go away it throws me into a panic. Im going to the pain mgmt Dr on Wed to get the results of my fibro related bloodwork. I'm going to ask him about costochondritis too. I hear this happens to many people w/Fibro.

Glad to hear you going to the Doctors and yes do ask about costochondritis.  Many people will present to the ER with this pain believing they may be having a heart attack so it can be painful as well as alarming.

Take care
