This pain comes and goes and gets really intense - enough to make her cry. She is also experiencing a lot of other symptoms like numbness and vision problems, tingling sensations, ect. This chest/heart pain is the main thing though and lately the only thing that is really bothering her. She has had anxiety for about 4 months now and panic attacks occur often to where her body just feels like it's going to give out. The chest pain never seems to go away during this time. She always says that she is scared it's something else - maybe a heart attack. I always read on here and the net that people think they are having a heart attack. Is this most likely anxiety? She went to the doctor yesterday and checked out fine but they didn't do EKG's or Blood work (she was pi**ed) so we have to go somewhere else for that. What's going on? She wants to know everything is fine... is this normal for people with panic disorders?

Sad to say but you may need to go to Emergency Room and tell them you are having chest pains. They will automatically hook you up to EKG and do everything to cover their a** so to speak to make sure you are well for release. Even though my EKG (which really just indicates if you HAD a heart attack) came out fine, they kept me overnight for an ultra sound of heart and stress test which all came out fine. That was my first panic attack in November of 07 and was scary since I was out of town on business.
Last December it came on again. I went to Dr. who just gave me Xanax 3 times daily as needed. Since I would not take them daily, he also put me on Zoloft which was really bad for me and brought about warm flushing feelings every eveining. I have been off Zoloft now for 2 weeks.
My symptoms are a littel different. Pain seems start in upper back and then gives a aching feeling on arm pits and a pain in the chest. Then a hot flash feeling comes through the legs and sometimes chest area.
Again, I recommend to go to ER. Although it may be costly, it will put you at ease.

Pengh,

Good advice from all. It is important to get checked out physically when a diagnosis of anxiety is given, to know which physical sensations are likely to be from the anxiety, and whether there are any underlying health issues that should be treated also.

I have experienced both simultaneously, and knowing which symptoms can't hurt me at all, and what's physically causing the ones that are troublesome has been a big help in facing down my anxiety.

I am glad your GF is having an EKG. However going to the ER for an EKG that can be done in the clinic is very expensive.  Her  Dr. should have done one in the clinic on her visit to him.  Please remember to remind your GF to advocate for herself.  She has the right to ask for an EKG if she has been experiencing Chest Pains and is in the clinic with that  concern.

I am sorry the EKG was not done on the first visit.

Let us know how she is doing.
