I suffer from anxiety and depression and read so many horror stories about using xanax on the web....I have tried 3 different ad's, none of which of helped much.  The xanax is the only thing that is really helping.  I try to use only .5 mg twice a day, usually only .5 once a day.  Is this highly addictive and should I not be using it?  I'm continuing to try to find (with my APRN) to find an effective ad.  Thanks for any comments

karlie,

Many people use this med or similar medications to help with their anxiety. If it has been RX by your APRN and you find it helps you I would take the medication.  Most people use it short term and only when needed and others on a daily basis.

If your concerned about addiction please do talk with your physician.

Take care

Kitt

I'm not a doctor, but from experience, Xanax is addictive if taken regularly. But this need not be a problem. If you are taking it under a doctor's care, you will be fine. Don't increase or decrease the dose without speaking to your doctor. Also, never go off one of these drugs without help. You must follow a doctor's advice to do it safely.

I think if Xanax is helping, then continue taking it. If you're going to need something long term, perhaps your doctor can suggest an anti-depressant. I take Ativan and that is addictive, also. With a doctor's care, you'll be fine on the Xanax.

I have taken Xanax for years. Yes, these medicines may certainly be addictive, but it changed my life. Every time I tried to taper, my anxiety would worsen. I decided to continue with Xanax under my doctor's care, and do not plan on stopping. Just my two cents. Blessings, Julie
