Great thread topic! I plan on spending the evening on the porch, watching the stars and saying thanks for all the beauty out there.

That sounds great :) We are going to have a "Blackout Party" with some good food cooked on the woodstove, lanterns/candles, & play a few games like charades :) There is so much a person can do without technology that is fun and family oriented.

Hope you have a great one!

Sam :)

Thanks, you too, Sam! (Fellow Canadian?? Just wondering with the woodstove in action tonight.) Your party sounds like a blast!

No, I'm just a "crazy" American, lol :) But I am considering buying a small farm in Canada to live part of the year due to global warming and the need for better health care. . . I don't know, but I can have my hopes and dreams. I would love to live there, it is a very beautiful country :)

The party will be fun and I definitely encourage everyone to have fun during this wonderful occasion. I'm glad to see people the world over coming close for a common goal. . . Gives me great hopes for the future of our world and our global family :)

Your Bro Sam :)

Yes, it IS a day of hope! :-) I've lived in the U.S., too, and still have lots of pals south of the border. Hey, there are farms for sale where I live, so if you ever decide to take that step, gimme a shout. Yours in rural Canada.....Raniah.

Huh... Time sure flies... seems like just yesterday it was Earth Hour again... //@.@\\'....
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.

For those of you who love the birds and animals of this planet, please know how greatly these beautiful creatures are harmed by light pollution at night.  It disrupts their migration patterns, as well as their reproductive and feeding habits.  Some of the species whose numbers are dwindling are directly affected by this.  Please think of them tonight when you turn out the lights.

Light pollution???? I mean, I know light can be distracting (especially to moths) But... //@.@\\'... Light pollution? And aren't most birds sleeping at night? I'm confused...

Celey,

Actually, ALL of us are harmed by light pollution. It disrupts our natural circadian rhythms. Recently, my doctor's office posted an article linking 24-hour light exposure to certain forms of cancer, just to pose an example. As far as birds and your question, birds are very easily disoriented by bright lights at night. There is a ton of info on the web if you're curious. Not meaning to brush you off in the least! But there is far too much for me to put into one post this afternoon (and I'm trying to finish up my work list before I turn out the lights tonight!) :-)

Happy Earth Hour!

Hey Bro, You are an American Idol............. devil

I got you on this one.  I will get out the candles and surprise my hubby.  He will think " another power failure and it is not even storming"

Hey we have a wood burner in the house and the pole building. My hubby cuts all his own wood on our 80 acres of wood tics up north.  He is always cutting down a dead tree somewhere.

Hugs at ya

Hey Bro and All,

Well how did your party go Sam?  Hope you all had a good time last night.  I did get out those candles.  And the rest is history.  Hubby fell asleep in his chair.  LOL.

This was a great thing and thanks to all who participated .

Hugs

Kitt

It was surprisingly moving, watching the lights go out around the lake and seeing just a few glimmers from camp fires. I haven't heard the local stats yet, but apparently Toronto saw a decrease in electricity of over 15%! Yay! Thanks to the people of Sydney, Australia for starting this wonderful trend in 2007. :-)

My family and I had every intention of turning out the light and playing board games.  The weather had other plans for us.  It was just me and my parents at their house (as I lost electricity at mine due to a late March rain turn to snow storm).  I worked all day yesterday and my lights were out at least one hour prior to when we would have turned them off.  My Dad had surgery Friday so he was in bed earlier than usual as well.  I was asleep before earth hour started.  But, on a good note, after I got off work today, I went back to my parents house and turned off the TV and my parents and I played scrabble for over an hour.  There is a life away from all these modern contraptions isn't there?!

Sam, did you get snow?  How was your party?

I don't know about y'all, but but I think mother nature has other plans here in Alaska with this dag burn volcano going off all the time now, but it has stopped the flow of oil at the drift river plant

But we did finally did get to see it go off the other day, it been so cloudy or it go's off at night and we did get to miss one of the best lighting storms as it blew off late at night but most of the ash has missed us so far and only had a trace of it yet
